... the river.. very pretty spot!

- We go for a bike ride around town.. This town at one point in the 1800's had the most millionaires in all the US so lots of nice houses. It starts to rain so we head back to RV. Summer is officially over as we have to go UNDER THE BED and get out jeans and socks and sweatshirts! Sigh!

... of me, one dead and doing nothing on the road. Two cracked and very dead armadillos. Birds, cows, horses and goats. I passed may farms along the way today that I could see their livestock.
I just made it into Louisiana before the last downpour started. The hotel I booked into is a 'budget' Inn and my room looks like a 60's basement (dark paneling etc). Still it's cheap and dry.
Wonder if I'll get to New Orleans tomorrow?

After a second sleepless night - mostly due to the heat, partly due to the large number of men in utes driving in and out of the otherwise empty campground (were they mafia? drug dealers? secret man lovers? rangers spying on us to make sure we paid?) we decided not to sleep in the van again. Welcome to Mississippi!

This morning we waved goodbye to New Orleans and set off on our Deep South tour proper. I mentioned the average age group of our tour, right? After some careful observation, we're guessing the oldest couple are in their mid 70s.. at least!
