... home message was that Abe's father stuck to the old ways and barely made enough to keep his family alive, while his neighbour, Mr Sargent (whose farmhouse and farm yard are also not he property) made money by investing in modern technology - a metal plough, for instance! Here is the cabin.

After a picnic lunch on the grounds, we got back on I 70, skirted St Louis and stopped at the Visitor's Centre in Missouri.

Left home at 8am Sun 12/28/14. Was cold : right at ZERO, Thru Wisc & Ill. Roads were great - no snow on ground after Madison WI. Just on the road. Shooting for Paduca/Tenn state line? Opie is a great traveler but he never sleeps - just sits in back looking out the windows. 5pm & 30 near Paris (?) ...

... four items - and also a new suitcase to carry my load! I was exhausted from shopping and Joe was exhausted from waiting. We headed home with a stop at subway for a late supper. Joe did some research and found that it's not that the Amish can't use electricity - it's bring connected to the outside world that they are not allowed. He reckons they could produce their own electricity and have computers and their own internet that was not connected to the ...

Happy birthday to my love and my favorite clown, John! We celebrated after the show with wine, junk food, and four episodes of "Girls". A very lovely day which would have only been lovelier if we could have spent it with friends and family back home. But everyone sent John wonderful birthday greetings throughout the entire day, so I know we weren't far from people's thoughts. :)

We were met by Stella an expert on the Amish this morning for a tour around the Amish country. She explained the Amish way of life and pointed out many of their homes.
First stop was Millers Dry Amish store that sells all sorts of fabrics, nic nacs and haberdashery. Lucky us.....they were having a sale!!!! Fabrics ranged fro $3-$8 yard. I didn't buy much there. ...
