Falling Spring Falls

This past weekend, we headed up to Snowshoe, WV for a long weekend of skiing, snowstorms, and frozen waterfalls. In past years, we had driven up on Friday and skiied Saturday and Sunday and returned on Monday. Saturday’s the busiest skiing day, so this year, we drove up Saturday, skiied Sunday and Monday, and then drove back Tuesday, hoping to encounter fewer people on the slopes. We left early Saturday morning as we planned to ...

The Greenbrier Valley - Deep in the Alleghenies

West Virginia sometimes feels like a place left back in time.
It’s probably the only state that has fewer people than a century ago, an
outmigration have has led to a situation where very little new has been built

A travel blog entry by ktchris on Nov 05, 2014

We left Harrisonburg and made our way through all the small towns in the valley. Avoiding highways has really given us the chance to see the land of all the states we cross. Some of these towns look a little abandoned and others are adorable mini ecosystems of their own with thriving main streets and delicious local restaurants just asking us to go in and eat everything. It's been so much ...

Woke to a foggy morning with low cloud. Breakfast included scrambled egg and bacon which was a nice change. The bacon is sliced very thinly so that it is about 1/3 the thickness of our bacon, hence it is always very crispy and tends to break when trying to cut it or stab it with a plastic fork.

The cloud looked like it was not going to lift so we headed off to Monticello thinking at least we could look at an old building in the rain. We thought it was ...

Missing technology

Never thought I'd say this, but I'm missing my technology! At the moment, and probably for the next couple of days, we have no cell phone service and no email. Last night we had cell phone and email, but no internet. I can't touch base with the cat sitter, and I can only get on the internet if I sit at the picnic table outside the camper. It rained earlier, so the picnic table hence is wet and the sun on my iPad screen is making it hard to see. ...
