Wonderful place

We started our SA trip in Cape Town and stayed at the Liberty Lodge for 3 nights. It was the perfect start of a memorable vacation. Beautiful, tasteful and clean rooms, a delicious breakfast in the yard every morning with the opp to have a chat with the other few guests. Very personal atmosphere, attention and service. Ruth is amazing and has great tips for whatever you want to do during your time in Cape Town. Location is perfect- very safe, walking distance to restaurants, 5 min to Table Mountain by car, you can even walk into town. Stay there you won't regret it.

Great location, lovely rooms and your hostess Ruth will go out of her way to help you - it's incredible value.

The breakfasts are fantastic - lots of fresh fruit, yoghurt and a cooked English Breakfast if you want it.

It's in a great location, near Table Mountain, and with great dining locations less than five minutes walk on Kloof St.

It was a perfect first stop for us in SA.

Felt like home

The Liberty Lodge was a beautiful place to stay! The breakfast was wonderful! Lisa and Nida made the stay a delight with their friendly smiles! The rooms are warm and well decorated! Walking into the living room felt like I was walking into my home!

Brilliant

My girlfriend and myself were there for 3 nights and it was one of the best we've been. The staff was so friendly, we were talking with them like friends. You have the option to play music, the rooms are fantastic with amazing views. We were drinking and looking at tablemountain cos it is just right next to you. The staff were absolutely superb, she booked everything for us and recomended were to go. She rented a car for us and they brought it to the B&B!! The location is excellent too as the main restaurants are just 2 min walking. I recomend this place 100%, you won't be disapointed at all. Best place in capetown. Thanks to the staff for making feel us like at home.

Amazing views and cute dogs

Hearing the clickety-clack of the dog's paws on the kitchen floor was the happy sound that welcomed us to Liberty Lodge. If you want the room with the best view - ask for the Rhodes room. It doesn't have access to the terrace directly but that makes it more private and the views of the mountain are amazing.

Button and Zip - the dogs of the house are very cute but not particularly interested in affection!

Very comfortable and nice informal breakfast set up where you get to meet the other guests out in the garden courtyard in nice weather. Within safe walking distance of lots of good restaurants - the Thai nearby was brilliant. After tiring of the V+A waterfront this gave us access to a new part of Cape Town that we would definitely revisit.

Parking was just outside on the front, but the area seemed quite safe. Very close to the Cableway for the mountain and easy to get to City and Waterfront.

Very friendly welcome with complimentary glass of wine and complimentary sherry whenever you fancy in the lounge! Big CD and magazine collection and crazy safari themed toilet halfway up the stairs.

Definitely recommended. Look out for the cuddly Nelson Mandela toy...

Fantastic! Jimmy and Staff are simply superb! More Boutique than B&B

My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights, starting with New Year's Eve (Dec. 31, 2005). I almost hate to praise Jimmy Von Tonder, the proprietor, too much such that everyone might expect the level of service we received! Jimmy could not have been more helpful (by email) in the month or so before we came - he got us in this property during a very busy season and secured us New Year's Eve reservations at very popular local restaurant- and he and his staff were extremely helpful in planning our itinerary and answering all of our questions once we arrived. Jimmy has compiled a great guest book for each room that answers nearly all the questions you could possibly have, with suggested itineraries/activities- drives down to the Cape, to the winelands, where to eat along the way, which beaches to hit, the best restaurants in CT, etc. The rooms are really well done, in a modern-African theme, and the staff are very attentive and keep things very tidy. Breakfasts are memorable, as well! B&Bs are usually something we avoid, but we put Liberty Lodge in the class of a botique hotel, not a B&B. Plus, the views of the city and of Table Mountain from the 2nd floor rooftop are just stunning. Great location - 5 mins. from hikes up Table Mountain and Lions' Head, 10-15 mins. from the waterfront and 10 mins. to Camps Bay. We highly, highly recommend any of Jimmy's properties based upon our stay here.

A little Gem!!

We travelled to Cape Town in December and wanted somewhere for 5 nights with a bit of character, not just accomodation that could be in any city. We did a lot of research and decided on Jimmy and Louis's Liberty Lodge. The Waterfront hotels seemed appealing, however once we arrived in Cape Town we felt we had made the right decision. We found the Waterfront nice but a bit artifical and commercialised.

Our room at Liberty Lodge was spacious and the decor, although a little tired in places, was very tasteful. The lounge and dining room were beautifully decorated, with a small fireplace and cd player - great choice of cds too. We felt very at home and were treated more like house guests. There were many fabulous bars and restaurants within walking distance and we felt quite safe walking out at night. Some of the best meals we had were close to Liberty Lodge (Can highly recommend Millers Thumb !) Jimmy and Reite were always on hand with ideas and couldn't have been more helpful. On our last day we left our credit card at the B&B. Jimmy and Louis came over with it to our hotel in Franscheook the next day (one and half hour drive). Don't think we would of got that kind of service at the Holiday Inn!

Home is where the heart is

I loved this spot. From the moment I arrived I felt right at home. The decor is refreshingly fun yet very chic. Each room is named after a prominant South African - I was in Ghandi which had a breathtaking view of the mountain and a balcony/sun porch from which I could see halfway across the world ! Breakfasts were yummy, the staff friendly and helpful. Situated in the hub of Tamboerskloof - I thrived on the buzz and the easy access to the cable-way, V&A Waterfront and gazillions of restaurants.

Jimmy & Lisa - I'll be back ! I might try Rhodes' next time although Madiba is tempting !

A wonderful place

I've stayed at Libery a number of times now and I can really recommend it to anyone thinking of staying there.

Although some of the rooms are small they are all wonderfully appointed and full of fascinating distractions. So much better than a sterile hotel room.

It is located close to the city center and Waterfront (I've walked a few times, but I'd only try it if you are feeling eneregetic and aren't afraid if the uphill walk on the way back). If you are without your own transport then you can easily get around in taxis and so on.

Bookings and receptions have always gone without a hitch. The staff are all well trained and efficient and breakfasts are usually social and friendly affairs if there are other guests around.

The only negative I can think of is is that it is probably not suitable if you are travelling with children (I don't)

Last homely house in the south

I want to let you guys know about Liberty Lodge B&B in Cape Town. It is about as homely a place as you could hope to find. In a brilliant area, very convenient to the city and restaurants, and realy affordable. I stayed in the Tolkien Room which is the budget room and although it has no view and is smallish, it is decorated in grand style. The other 3 rooms are larger and some have access to a great terrace which is for all guests to use. The views from this upper level are really great. The owner, Jimmy is a lovely guy - great sense of humour and a really useful knowledge of his city. If you want a warm and generous environment you should not mis this house when visiting this amazing city.
