... heaven. The frescos are original but look fresh and new. I’ve never seen anything so ornate that doesn’t rely on gold leaf. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and really very unique. The altar is at the west end – unheard of in a catholic church but done to save the stone screen. It certainly reinforces the power of the church so I suppose it succeeded in its purpose. ...

... to tell us it’s time to get gas. The next gas station along the freeway is 60km away. We set the Garmin for the nearest gas station and get off the freeway. The first place is out of business and we end up on a dirt road that goes in circles. Finally we find a station. I swear it was less than a mile as the crow flies from where we started. We leave the dogs at home and head to Albi centre, the Cathedral de Sainte Cecile. Cannot take photos but amazing inside. Every surface is painted, not a bare stone anywhere.
