... almost glad to be back in the car for another 2 hours driving!

The scenery became notably flatter with harvest fields as we approached the Champagne region. At one point we both spotted our first ever twister! OK so there weren’t cows or cars flying around but we could see the dust from the harvest being sucked up into god knows where – very cool and a first for us ...

We seem to be getting quite good at packing up now but it still has to be done so we had a leisurely morning with Mum and I sorting laundry and packing and the boys working. After lunch we headed back to Laignes for a wander around the little village which is quite quaint and then went to a lake near Marcenay only 10 mins away. Guy was determined to have a swim every day so despite it being rather more chilly, he still had a dip in the pool - and a nice hot shower afterwards! Andy's method of swimming lengths to get warm was pretty effective too. We had steak frites for dinner (again, but it's so good) and Mille feuille for pudding, very rich and sweet but perfect. Matthew set up 'Who wants ...

Jackie gives an open invitation to all her guests to join her at the Protestant French church 20 mins away which we had thought we would like to do. But after a run of busy days and not wanting to miss the market in Chablis in the opposite direction, we decided to miss out on a French experience of church. We did however get to experience the little boulangerie van which drives round the villages 4 mornings a week so we ran out at the toot of ...
