... directions. The English speaking tour guide did a fantastic job explaining the cave art in Lascaux II. The cave has been recreated to almost the exact scale in size and shape. 90% of the paintings of the original cave have been reproduced in this cave. It took several years to do the reproductions. I am very grateful we took the time to visit this UNESCO World heritage sight. Such a ...
Today we drove from our hotel in Domme to a small town near the Lascaux II monument. We landed in Montignac to buy tickets for the monument and tour.
There is absolutely nothing negative I can think of to say about my stay at Les Charmes. Eric and Helen are the most convivial of hosts, ready and willing to impart their knowledge of the surrounding area.
What a perfect place to stay. Eric and Helen were wonderful hosts. They made us feel right at home and were very helpful with restaurant suggestions and day-trip planning. We stayed in Le Pigeonnier room on the top floor which was spacious and provided a great view of the surrounding area and a few beautiful sunsets. Each morning we awakened to the soft cooing of a pigeon from the roof. Les Charmes de Carlucet is perfectly situated in the heart of one of the most picturesque areas that my wife and I have ever visited. We stayed for eight nights and every day was a unique experience. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in nearby St. Leon sur Vezere with a picnic dinner along the banks of the river. Just one of the many memorable experiences we had during our stay in this beautiful area of France. Les Charmes de Carlucet was everything we hoped it would be. A big thank you to Eric and Helen. They have created a marvelous place for their guests.
One we went back to
We went back this to this fantastic place and we were very pleased to have done so. Last year we stayed for 5 nights, this year we stayed 10 nights and that was not long enough. The breakfasts were varied and fresh preparred, the hosts Eric and Helen marvelous, the area outstanding with lots to do in any sort of weather. You do not have to travel far to visit historic sites caves or activities such as canoeing on the Dordogne. We want to return and would recommend it to anyone families or couples.
Comfort & Convenience
Eric and Helen have spent several years working to make their manor house in the French countryside comfortable for them and for you. Les Charmes de Carlucet is conveniently central to everything that is the Perigord Noir, and comfortably quite at the end of a site-filled day. Walk to the nearby Black Duck Pub where Matthieu offers not only great service and classic French food at reasonable prices but a great selection of wines, Belgium ales, and of course Guinness!! The sunsets and views from both the B&B and The Black Duck are exceptional. This region of France has no shortage of sites, and Les Charmes de Carlucet will surely complement your stay.

We stayed at Les Charmes for four nights while exploring the Dordogne area near Sarlat. We couldn't have found a more perfect place for us. Helen and Eric are gracious, friendly and helpful hosts. The breakfasts were varied and tasty with fresh fruit, granola, yogurts, pasteries and bread, meat and cheese, even a quiche one morning. It was served in a pleasant sunroom overlooking the pool and grounds. Our room was large, airy, modern and very clean. The sparkling pool was great for a refreshing dip after hot days of sightseeing. The nearby restaurants, where Eric called to make reservations for us, served the the most delicious food we have ever had in France!
The accommodation was superb in terms of space, decoration and cleanliness and set in well maintained, well-equipped grounds.
Local restaurants and shops were most welcoming and provided product and services of an equal standard to that of our residence.
The local architecture and easily accessible, magnificent chateaux and caves were stunning and a "must-see" for any visitor to this paradise area of France.
The owners, Mr and Mrs Edgar, were very welcoming and discreet. Their local knowledge and advice was much appreciated.
We loved Les Charmes de Carlucet

My family and I stayed at Les Charmes de Carlucet for four days
this past October and we were very impressed. This B and B is in a perfect location to explore the Dordogne region of France.
Hosts Eric and Helen are very welcoming and nice and offer lots of information on places to see or places to eat. The property is magnificent and quiet and rather large. There is onsite secure parking and a beautiful well kept pool for summer swims. The room we had the Lavande was large and very clean and had a very large bathroom. I would highly recommend this B and B for price, location, not to mention the fantastic breakfast that is served every morning in the enclosed garden patio area.
What A Wonderful Place!!!
My wife and I spent 5 of the best days of our lives in Dordogne last year. We stayed in the luxurious Charmes de Carlucet. We could not have been more pleased with the location, the accomodations, the breakfasts or the owners. We did not want to leave and cannot wait to return.
