    ... looking at my phone when it happened! When we got almost to St. Louis, we got off the highway to go to a place called Malcolm W. Martin Memorial Park. I read this was the best spot to get a picture of the Arch and the St. Louis skyline. When we got there we had the place to ourselves so we got some great photos! We then got back on the road since we still had about 2 1/2 hrs ahead of us before our campsite for the night in the Mark Twain state park near Hannibal, ...

    ... to the East side of the city we try get a good view of the Mississippi and the Arch skyline - which isn't easy as most river access roads are closed: the Mississippi has raised water levels.
    We can't wait for the AC-cooled motel room, outside it's still in the 90s and very humid even late at night...

    ... The Gateway Arch is the vision of renowned architect Eero Saarinen. The Gateway Arch commemorates Thomas Jefferson's vision and St. Louis' role in the westward expansion of the United States. Jefferson signed the Louisiana Purchase which helped make the USA whole. Prior to the Louisiana purchase from New Orleans upwards toward/into Canada was French territory.     ... that I unwittingly tried to take on the plane in my carry-on luggage. And some lovely serving spoons destined as gifts. And it was there, at the JA'KK store, that Patrick bought me my 40th anniversary pendant in a rainbow of gems from South America.

    They had high quality tee shirts with nicely embroidered logos of soccer teams. These were very popular.
