Rome, if you want to

... long gone and columns lay scattered here and there. The wooden floor is gone, revealing a plush green grass floor and a labriynth of stones marking what used to be underground passageways and chambers to hold prisoners, slaves and animals. The place spooked me. It's hard to understand the sheer volume of people and animals who died here in cruel shows. During it's opening 100 days and nights alone of "games", thousands of gladiators ...

Monuments of Rome

... the fountain and get their picture taken. An American lady takes my picture, and in return I do the same for her and her friends. I couldn't get near the fountain itself. Just too many people around. I must check it out at night time. Again, I've done a 12 hour stint, visiting major attractions. Time for something to eat and some sleep. I'm not sleeping in again. The hotel has a roof top garden bar and restaurant. It's a pleasant evening for veal. Nice meal, Nice ambience.

Arrival in Rome

... marble, filled with statues in every arch and drapped in banners. We wandered out, past the beautiful Arch of Constantine, and towards the Roman Forum which sits beside the Colosseum. First we used our dual tickets and hit up Palatine Hill, where a Palace of former Emperors stood, complete with manicured gardens and fountains as well as an amazing view over the Forum. We walked through the Forum, an amazing collection of magnificant ruins of an ...

... ran around a Hungarian grocery store for 15 min trying to find pizza ingredients. We found pepperoni, bread, mushroom pasta sauce, ham, (i think), this funny looking white cheese, and a pineapple. I shredded the ham diced the pineapple, added the sauce to the bread, and the cheese on top. Best pizza ever I have to say, and it only cost 5,000 Forints, compared to our 13 ...

Last night in Rome

... but the train from Milan to Zurich was awful. The air conditioning had broken down and I was very hot. People were complaining. And no free drinks on this train. I arrived into Zurich at 18:50 and used the tourist office to find accommodation given that everything was booked up again... a huge negative of travelling through Europe in the Summer. But I'm staying at the Zip Loc Hotel in Zurich, with each room named after a rock band... my room 612 is named after ACDC.

Roma - The Vatican and the Ancient Roman Empire

Rome was incredible. It was probably the most historic place we have been to in Europe. We only had 2 days so we had to cram as much as possible. Even after that we still didnt see it all. But we saw all the important and most popular sites. THe Roman Forum was the first thing we saw. This is the forum that Ceasar built along with the other emperors. Most of it is destroyed but it is amazing to see the peices that are still preserved. The Coleseum was ...

... peek hour, and took over 45 minutes. Our apartment was on the first floor of a square building that has four apartments. We had plenty of windows opening into the gardens betwen the working buildings and the Villa itself. The gardens aren't particularly stunning, but very pleasant with large shade trees, and Olianders in pots, and expanses of lawns. They also cater for functons such as weddings, and there was a small party for perhaps twenty people the evning we arrived ...
