... that flamingos were native to France, but they are! Brian thought they would have all migrated by now, but I was able to catch a glimpse of a few!
But finally we arrived. Taking the first side road we could that wasn’t waay out of the way we went directly to the water to sit ourselves down on the Med and have a picnic. Beautiful! And we had it all to ourselves with just a few locals going for their mid-day walk or run. Now ...
... the same stories but every time it's hilarious.
The hi-lite of my stay in Montpellier was spending the evening with friends from elementary school I hadn't seen in over 10 years. I had completely lost touch with these people but thanks to Facebook, I was able to join them all and organize a reunion. It was absolutely wild to see how these people changed and grew up. Some changed a whole lot while others I would have recognized in ...
... BUT the info we got for the campsite was wrong and it was closed.. and the one next door too. So a rushed internet trip we found one, way out and got there just in time. France is full of red lights, roundabouts and pedestrian crossings!!!! Im SOOOOO over them all!!!!
Got to the campsite and there were no buses in town,. We were exhausted by then so fell into bed and decided to give up on that part of France and head to Lyon the next day...
We have enjoyed many good meals in France, but two stand out from the vast number in restaurants that tend to offer a menu with generic dishes (well prepared though), rather than distinctive cuisine. This could relate to our budget of course.
Nimes
We arrived in Nimes in the late afternoon and booked into the Hotel des Tuileries, a lovely hotel in the old part of town very close to the Arena. The host, Andrew, recommended a ...
... of the most intact coliseums in the world (La Arenes) and a temple that is also in exceptional condition, Maison Carree, which was modeled after the Temple of Apollo in Rome and dedicated to two of Augustus' grandsons. Across from the temple is an art museum that was modeled loosely in its form on the temple. Wandering around nearby we found some interesting fountains lined up in a row, some of which actually held water. We also ...
Nîmes, Languedoc-Roussillon, France 3beansabroad... they themselves are traveling. If you're boring, you're most likely do not want to travel. Since everyone is in the same boat, we have the same perspectives and values. You know automatically everyone likes to travel, has great stories, and has overall a really fun personality. I can say hands down that out of the hundreds of people that I have met, maybe only 2 were boring. So what, you just move on and find more ...
Lodeve, Languedoc-Roussillon, France jdcabanel... the top of it and lost the whole show. No excuses, my responsibility - should have read the road conditions better. With bike and body all in tact it's a subdued 2km ride into Asilah. Asilah is the same sort of feeling as Azzenmour - very relaxed ex Portuguese seaside town with nice friendly locals. We find our hotel easy and enjoy a fresh caught seafood meal, recollecting what a carbuncle on the backside of humanity Casablanca was. May 21st , 22nd and 23rd KM START = 15, 620 (Trip = 5 ...
Sete, France barneyandpier... cup of coffee while I poured over a map of montpellier and tried to figure out my next move. I finally decided to catch a bus into town find the train station (in case I had to sleep in it) and go from there. When I went to inquire about the bus, of course it had just left and I was going to have to wait another hour for the next one Which I did, having no other choice. I found the train station and now I'm in an internet cafe across the street. Its raining ...
