Non ero mai stato all'Isola d'Elba.
Di solito sceglievo altre mete del Mediterraneo (Grecia, Tunisia, Marocco, Spagna, Sicilia, Sardegna, ecc.) perchè pensavo fosse poco "calda" e poco "mediterranea".
Invece è stata una bellissima sorpresa.

However we were able to find a lovely secluded beach called Le Tombe (the tombs) - it took about 15 minutes to walk down from the road and the beach was made of small black pebbles and the water was very clear - we could see Corsica about 50 kms away. It was an "optional clothing" beach as some of our very few neighbours were nude. One day we were driving along the cliff road high above the sea and stopped to look at a lovely property ...

... through Napoleon's villa on his island of exile. The sea is so salty that when you're in it you are completely buoyant. You can just suspend there in the water in standing position and you don't even have to move at all to stay up. I swam way far out with a group of people to a tiny rock island and we climbed up and plunged back into the sea from the top. Great Island! It belongs to the Tuscany region and is next to Livorno where you can take a ferry to arrive. We travelled around the island with our teacher and classmates and visited some geological interesting points. We will probably come back... but this remains a mystery...

... naar ons toe en we geven ons gewonnen. Hij brengt ons naar een heeeel ruime plek (dat zijn we ondertussen wel gewend). Als we eenmaal liggen blijken de jongens die ons geholpen hebben gelukkig gewoon de havenmeesters te zijn, maar is de haven verre van gratis. Naast ons ligt een hele grote afzichtelijke zeilboot, met daarop op het achterdek een stel dikke patsers van de ergste soort: ze laten zich champagne bedienen door hun personeel in witte shirts.
