Le Santalou Saint Paul Trois Chateaux

found a great little town in Provence.. and as they say "when in Rome (Provence)"... we had a great meal in true french restaurant... happy to be away from tourist food... and had some very nice red wine........ just a stopover but a friendly little place and nice hotel...

... and visited one of three remaining Roman theaters in the world. It is 2,000 years old and has been to Hell and back, but it's still standing and people perform operas there. A statue of the Emperor looks out at the audience from the top to remind everyone who is in charge. ... to the Cathedral is a public garden which also offers beautiful views, primarily of the Rhone and Villeneuve-les-Avignon. It has a grotto, plenty of olive trees, a small playground and grass which may be walked on, but not used for a picnic (don't ask me why).

Those are the three things we did in the afternoon. In the morning we drove across the Rhone bridge to Villeneuve to see their market and to visit the tourist ...

... Enclos, which advertises as a pizza place but is much more. The outdoor cafe is an enclosed area (hence the name) where we sat next to the fountain and had a variety of things over the time here. The food is excellent and it's right across the street from the hotel, both very good things. Tonight I had a Gambes Flambee, which was shrimp primarily, so I had almost an all-shrimp day, eatingwise. It could be worse ...

... 1/5 de sa surface. Cela donne des formes naturelles auxquelles le sculpteur donne une signification en ajoutant le plus souvent un visage sur une silhouette drapée dans des replis naturels. Le résultat est souvent d'une beauté surprenante.

Ensuite l'aventure continue à Pékin

... and swimming (lovely cool fresh water from the Alps and
the Massif Central). This huge flat valley, surrounded by beautiful
mountain ranges on both side I imagine would also be an ideal location for a family holiday.
The Chateau itself is really lovely and the 63 acres of grounds include
a forest, private 'mountain' with 100 mile ...

... We were handed a set of directions and a big map of Provence with all the week's routes highlighted. The routes, designed by Virginie, would take us on the main road out of Orange and immediately guide us into the peaceful, quiet backroads of the French countryside with hardly any traffic. The directions were printed on different sheets of paper, which would be folded in half and placed one at a time on the stand. Luckily, I also had my Garmin GPS with a satellite-guided ...

... I'd say that around the hour mark, that's when you start thinking “Hang on, we're barely half way up and it's getting harder, what are we doing?”, but you press on
knowing it will be worth it at the top, it's always worth it at the top. The road climbed on and so did we.


Things started to get tough around the 16km stage, we'd been cycling uphill for good deal of time so our legs were starting to tire ...

Only for Brenda! Driving down the upper Ardeche gorge on the outside of the road with 1m retaining walls and vertiginous views. Big lorries using all the bend were coming the other way ...
