Final Thoughts

... obliged but at times some in the group really couldn’t hold back. And if you have some unwanted piece of clothing or extra food, I can’t think of a better place to give it to than a family or child in need. But I truly believe the spirit in Africa is extremely strong despite all the years of slavery, colonialism, famine, diseases, and civil unrest. What choice do you really have in life? In life you really have two choices; one is to live ...

The very first person in line to get the fish guts dumped on them was a lifelong learner, a guy who was probably about 60 or 70. He got it dumped on him and then went to jump in the pool. But the pool has these really shallow little ...

There is so much to do in Cape Town and it would be easy to stay here for a week.  I think ...

... the ocean here is colder in the summer and warmer in the winter. If I remember correctly it has to do something with the winds and the way they blow during the seasons. Not sure if that's right. Anyway, we switched beaches and before we knew it, the day had passed. The sun is so strong down here but we are prepared and did not burn. Our plan was to drive up to Signal Hill, which is basically a place on top of a little mountain that overlooks Cape Town and the ...

... to pick me up to take me to the Klein Constantia Wine Estate, where the reception was being held. It was a wonderful location and brimmed with history. There was a wide selection of great wines on offer, along with an amazing buffet which was heaven to a cheese-lover like me. Troy, the groom, had produced a photo-slideshow of their wedding, which had taken place on top of a mountain a few weeks earlier. I woke the next morning, just about - it was 1150, with a sore head. I assumed the role of Locke. That night we all went out and got drunk. The next day we met the truck, which I kept calling a bus and was told off. We went on a township tour to see how poor people live. Not sure I really liked this. I was a bit like a human zoo. Got some good pictures though. The kids ...

From there we went to Stellenbosch where we had 2 days of wine tasting, On the first day T drove so I got to taste the wines, we arrived late, so I crammed 3 wineries into 1.5 hours and got rather drunk! T thought it was hilarious and proceeded to take the **** out of me! The next day I drove, by lunch ...

The subjects are mostly the same except they have a subject here called life orientation which is taught at every grade level and is almost completely AIDS awareness lessons. On that note, one in 8 of our 1000 students are HIV positive or have AIDS. All classrooms are AIDS friendly and most of the posters on the wall deal with AIDS. Apart from that it is suprisingly ...

... on all the news and seeing how much they have grown up over the years!! I also visited with quite a few of my extended family members. Unfortunately I didn't get to see everyone, but those I did it was lovely to see again. They often told me old stories of the family growing up. Some I'd heard before but others I hadn't and it was great learning more about my mom. A huge thank you to those who let me crash at their houses. I really really appreciated it.
