Almost over from Laurie
... the stealing of property... A complicated time. But I am glad we won, and so are the people here in Normandy. There is about of a sense of unreality here driving through these tiny villages that are lost in a time warp somewhere between the 16th and 20th centuries.
When I have some time I will post some pictures to fb. Right now it is time to bid you all good night. I have a kitty friend here. Our b and b has been wonderful.

Pilgrimage part 2

We were greeted by a sea of white crosses and Stars of David. It is impossible to imagine what 9000 monuments in one place looks like. It puts the loss of the young men (and one or two women) buried here into perspective. We wandered the graves, reading the names of those who had died.
I had brought a pocket full of small Tennessee flag pins to give to people we had met. I had given a few away, but had a bunch left ...

My grandfather may have been a medic at some point and a foot soldier at another.....we're not really clear on that. My uncle was a foot soldier, landed somewhere around here, and wound up getting cut off from his unit in fighting. Well I have decided to keep up this blog, either publish weekly or probably more realistically a monthly. About my life here, living and working at this Chateau in Northern France.
