By train : The Vernon station is situated on the main line Paris / Rouen / Le Havre. It starts from the Saint-Lazare Paris station (which has not changed much since Monet painted it). The fastest trains complete the journey in less than 45 min.
In the Metro, take the 'SNCF - Grandes Lignes' exit. Buy a ticket to Vernon. The Rouen line departs from the right side of the platform, in the 'Grandes Lignes' section.

She said I would be able to get it sooner if I spoke French.

No luck there and we entered an area of the outskirts of Paris where you cannot moor unless you are a residential house boat.

So we had to go back down the river to an industrial quay next to a boat breakers that we had spotted going up river – how salubrious. Still it could be worse, we could be one of the tramps sleeping rough under cardboard by the bridges! À demain!

A perfect Parisian day

A travel blog entry by amyhuva

Yesterday I started my day by heading out to Versailles palace (in the rain, but apparently the weather is not going to improve for the rest of the week, so on I trundle). Invested in another umbrella as my one from Zurich couldn't handle the wind in Venice and London and broke, and went to the palace. It's a really incredible place with the most amazing rooms and silver objects d'art and furnature etc etc etc. I walked through the gardens in the rain and after ...
