... for six French popes over 70 years in the 14th century. There are actually two large palaces or chateaus next to each other with different architectures. Touring the Palais took about ninety minutes after which we left and toured the Pont D'Avignon also known as the bridge of St Benezet. A 13th century bridge that crosses the Rhone River. Although for the last 700 years, the bridge only goes halfway across the river. What happened to the rest remains a mystery.

          Day 71 - Provence Provincial

A travel blog entry by hopptwo on Nov 11, 2015

Monaco was cloudy and grey this morning when we woke. It is November after all. We checked out of the Port Palace Hotel about 10:00 and departed for Provence. The drive was about three hours and 25€ in tolls. While all part of the travel experience, the cost is a bit aggravating for those of us who are use to "freeways".

We took nearly two hours wandering around the medieval city until we headed over towards the main part of town to explore a little further. There are so many little streets that run off in every direction that was so easy to get lost, not that it was such a worry because we weren't in any hurry. We managed to get to the train station and print off our train tickets for tomorrow which saves us a headache on ...

Breakfast was warm croissants and a baguette, gazpacho for lunch with tartines, wine and beer, more drinks at 5:00 with a charcuterie with dinner to follow this writing. Une bonne ...

... watch the F1GP on the big screen......... Our man Daniel did well, but didn't win. I s'pose 5th is better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick and the series isn't finished yet, although I seriously doubt he can win this year against the all-conquering Mercedes team. Okay....so, Monday morning we hit the road again and, on recommendation, headed for Pont Du Gard which is yet another simply amazing structure built by those savages, the Romans.... Sorry, but to save me ...
