We had just passed St. Marcel, the last village before Conques, and when the path diverged from the road, saying 30 minutes to Conques, we took it hoping it would be quicker.     ... years ago..... Well, signs of life at reception so we have checked in and found we have our own little chalet - lovely, and we go down to the auberge near the church for dinner....AND there is a laundry here, so Amr has charged off with all our clothes to be first in!! We'll be clean in Conques!! ...just a p.s. We went down to the village and saw the sights - church, magnificent view with cross and pilgrim statue, then came back to the bar here and had a drink. ...

    ... in the Lot valley it is much warmer, even in the evening. We will not again this Camino ascend to the heights we did on the Aubrac mountains. We will be doing ups and downs, but the differences in altitude are more the range of 400 to 700 metres or less, rather than 1000 to 1300 m.     We set off this morning at about 8.30, feeling strong and ready for our day! I felt specially good as had slept well, and (without getting too medical!) had taken only half my beta blocker which does help not to have to plod slowly up hills - in fact I felt quite frisky! And the day started beautifully, cool and clear (again not a cloud in the sky) and we almost bounded up the first hill out of St. Chély.     ... with the BEST coffee and croissants. We strolled the streets, took the Petite Train for a loop to make sure we didn't miss anything and then out for a seafood dinner - nice but expensive! Our hotel was such a find. View over the canal, beautiful, comfy beds, best air conditioning I've ever come across, and lovely staff. All in all a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable two days before we hit the road again for Uzes where we spend our last ten days in ...
