    ... 12.30 so that was closed and most of the shops were closing also. Found our way out of Villafrance eventually through a maze of one way streets past some very pretty houses along river with weirs at a number of places. Eventually came to a bridge where we could double back into Villafranche and then up to find a supermarket.

    ... houses from the 13th and 14th century in between. The drive into Najac was beautiful through rolling countryside (no fences), some impressive chateaux type houses and a river below with camping areas dotted around. The population of Najac is apparently 900 and swells to 4000 in the summer months. Would not like to visit then as the roads are so narrow as are most in this area. Can see why the French here do not own four wheel drives only ...

    ... for defensive reasons. The town is something to behold and it is hard to describe in words your first impressions when you are driving along the valley below near the river and round a bend and then straight above you is this magnificent medieval town. The weather was cold and cloudy, but it did not stop us from getting out and exploring.

    Caught a taxi from Saint Come to Estaing it would have been 15.5 walk, quite manageable however Jane is still unwell and Helen seems to have caught the bad cough as well. We had made a booking in a nice hotel and so on arrival we were able to explore the town. Quite magnificent really. It is dominated by an ancient chateaux owned by Valerie Giscard ...

    ... and many, many walkers mostly French .. Of course they laugh at our attempts at French.. I must say Helen and terry do magnificently well... And some of the situations we have found ourselves in have been very challenging .. Those two are great. Me...hopeless. Well tomorrow is another taxi day all organised..
