      ... underworked guards-to get through the complex. It is a huge place, with only the tower, at one corner, open. Signs announce that the shops and restaurants are closed, which is a little disingenuous, these places haven't seen action in a while. At some point they've tried to turn the ground floor into a destination, with the tower a bonus, but it hasn't worked. The layout probably doesn't help, with only the ground floor covering the whole surface area, all the other floors look ...

      ... stay at the Akwaaba B&B has been amazing. Our host Joanna was an amazing wealth of knowledge and provided us with inside info on restaurants and tourist traps and made some of the best dishes for breakfast and 5pm drinks and nibbles.       ... centre but their main park with the Washington Monument as one end of the Mall and the Capitol Building at the other.

      The Washington Monument has scaffolding all around it as it is undergoing repairs resulting from an earthquake in Washington in August 2011. It still looked spectacular as the as the flood lights took effect as the day darkened.

      Got back to the hotel around 9:30 for a beer and a late dinner.
