After Jan's online class this morning, we repacked the car and loaded the dog for the last time, and started for home. We had kind-of, half-heartedly decided that we were finished with sight-seeing and we would just head home, but we didn't get far...only blocks, really...when Bob suggested that we drive through Colorado National Monument since we were here. And we were so glad we did!

A driving day today. Almost 700km from Cortez to Colorado Springs. Stopped at a small town called Durango which is a lovely tourist village. Discovered that we had jumped a time zone yesterday. A few of the locals seem to enjoy smoking marijuana on a Saturday morning. It has recently become a legal drug in Colorado. We drove over two passes with snow around us. Sunny and fine of course but a little chilly up ...
... have included more pictures than I should but it was such that Lynn was shooting out one side and I the other and both down the middle which is why there are some duplicates. Again it is hard to get them all in correct order and I wish you could see them with our eyes instead of our lens.
Tomorrow we are off for a week at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
... as a child so I wanted him to be able to go back and see it again. I just regret not doing it at the beginning of the trip. But at least it will not be such a big shock to my system going from the amazing mountains right back to Orlando and its heat. The mountains have been so cool but Colorado Springs is more of a city and not in the mountains so much hotter. I look at it as a transition back to civilization. I am not sure that the hotel ...
After investigating some events in the local area, Karyn was very excited when she found there was going to be a large hot air balloon festival in the area. It was another early morning, but Brendan was so floored at the idea of being reunited with his beloved Dunkin Donuts that he didn't even mind driving.
There was some apprehension when no balloons appeared to be in sight and there were clouds ...
