    ... special was happening. There seemed to be news crews there. We wandered up to the graveyard for the flavors again and then had a small ice cream. I had the Stephen Colbert’s AmeriCone Dream. It was a vanilla ice cream with caramel and fudge and waffle cone bits. Gotta love Stephen Colbert!

    We also stopped at the Cabot creamery and tasted cheeses and then off to the Cold Hollow Cider Mill to watch them ...

    ... until we called in Michael's (true) and Steph treated herself to a new fabric cutter. Route 7 took us out of Rutland, northwards towards Burlington alongside Lake Champlain. It's a slow route, 55mph max, but littered with beautiful "leaf peeping" opportunities. We are now becoming quite blasť about leaf colour (color!).     ... and managed to get the recipe for the tasty, smokey beans we have had here! Crossed the border into the USA past the arrogant, rude, most unfriendly guard you could ever imagine! We spent some time contemplating where they could find such people in this land of mainly such kind and hospitable people. We decided they must train them that way.

    ... covered caramel chunks - YUMMY!! We also visiting the Flavor Graveyard before continuing our journey. After leaving the factory, we really started seeing some wonderful colors. Being in the mountains and the lack of moisture recently made the colors so vivid. Perfect timing for the best color.     ... s not the music Woodstock) it used to be the Capital of Vermont before it was moved to Montpelier. It had a covered bridge which is a feature of this area of the country ( The bridges have a roof to protect them from the ice and snow.). The town has some very beautiful "clapboard" buildings and has a very old fashioned look. It probably costs a lot to live here because it looks a model heritage town. Vermont is almost completely covered in forest and they are all turning beautiful ...
