... along the western end was entirely flaming red. We paddled down to have a look but the sunset got wrapped up in heavy clouds hovering low over the hills and so we will give it another go in the morning when the first light of day coming from the east should make it glow in spectacular fashion.

We were back in camp before dark and so we built a fire, spread out our appetizers and finished the Chianti from the first night. ...

Captain Skene built saw mills, grist mills and an iron foundry, where trade can be documented from that time. The Revolutionary War caused the capture of Skene's trading schooner and the building of a fleet by Benedict Arnold at this place. ... or as Milo began to call them, the "flotisserie." I love that term! But something must have happened because Otto noticed that they seemed to stay in place for a very long time and they never caught up to us. Not even when we got stuck on the rocks several times. This is really the first time that I have ever been so stuck on a rocky section that I couldn't move. At one point I thought I was moving, but ...

Pirate Day on the Hudson. An annual event held by the Adirondack Adventure crew where they supply pirate costume items complete with eye-patches and scarfs. They rate the rapids we rode as Class III-V, However, based on the Class V's Alex and I have done elsewhere, I think these were a little weak. The river was down a little, but it was still a lot of fun. We started the day by rolling ...
