      ... There were so many people lined up it was very neat! We spent so much time swooning over the costumes, they were so extravagant. If I ever go back I'm definitely going all out!! Now that we had been in the Rialto and San Marco areas we headed towards Academia which is a museum across the grand canal that has a nice neighborhood surrounding it.       ... when they do, it's almost as though they are doing so because you interacted with them first. There are of course many exceptions to this (though I can't think of any off the top of my head), but in regards to Ristorante Quadri, where we had a very expensive meal in Venice, that is exactly what we got.       ... everything seemed in order although it was really hot, but not smelly as we had remembered to throw out the milk and cheese. A nice Swiss man in a nearby car said his hadn't started as the battery went flat (apparently they don't like extreme heat and it was 35 ℃ in the car park) but the car park employs a mechanic especially to help when your car won't start - so that was good to know.       ... tower fell down in 1902. They just don't build things to last over here! It was a good view but you wouldn't want to be up there on the hour when they ring the bells. The canal boat tour was late afternoon and took us round all the small canals and then finished up coming back down the length of the Grand Canal.
