La Torre Corniglia

We will be staying Riomaggiore (one of the five villages) and have booked our accomodation already at Casa Lorenza  We will be staying in apartment Nettuno.

What shouldn't we miss while we are here?

Drizzle greeted us this morning so we got on our wet weather gear and headed off for a walk along the coast to Portofino which was 5km away. Boats lined the streets as they are docked for the fall and winter. It made me think of how lively this place must be during the summer.

It took two trains and three hours to arrive in La Spezia and another quickie up the hill to Riomaggiore which is where I am now. The most southern of the 5 lands. Tuscan Riviera Portovenere
Had seen it on Getaway and looked very pretty.. Found a hotel with sea views and have spent 2 nights here resting , climbing around local castles… eating sleeping and watching the boats go in and out… not much English here but we are not hungry or thirsty so all going well….
Tomorrow we are off to the South of France.. 3 nights planned in Nice.. Really looking forward to it but have loved Italy…

We took a refreshing break and took a quick swim from the rocks at the bottom of the stairs. It was an interesting view of the village to swim out and see the buildings appear far up on the cliffs.

There is a little bar/restaurant on the main street called David that gives free tapas plates when you order a drink and they were inventive and tasty (great local olives and a creamy type of potato salad stood out). ... with humanity/tourists. Corniglia has fewer tourists, as there is little here to attract most of them. But there is a wonderful noise of the residents themselves...children playing, running around...people in conversation. Tonight at dinner I could hear conversations across the ravine...about 3-400 yards away. And, the food...did I mention the food_
