... it was so close made up for its shortcomings,

We drove home without mishap but it took us about 1 ½ hours to get through the motorway toll at Ventomiglia on Saturday afternoon. The Côte d'Azur is heaving with tourists and it is virtually impossible to go anywhere as you cannot park, have to queue for everything and are anyway unlikely to get in. The food is overpriced and the service is slow and don’t even think about going to the beach as you ...

We then caught the ferry that we thought was going to Managgio which is on the opposite side of the lake, but it went back to Bellagio so it was an opportunity for me to change out of my wet shirt and get a jacket, of course this was also the signal required for the rain to stop and the sun to come out. We say farewell to Milan with a taxi to the Central Railway Station which is huge, try to purchase tickets from carne machine but it won't accept my credit card, luckily a nice gypsy woman just happened to be looking over my shoulder and offered to help and we get our tickets. Grazie mille, but she doesn't want my thanks as she has just come out of hospital and needs some money. She still had the bandage on her arm! Feeling sorry for her ...

... While they cooked, Kathlee took our collective laundry down for a quick wash that we could hang to dry while we were out during the day. It's great to have so many of us to pitch in. I'm the official 'guide' so I get a break during these domestic activities so I can plan the next steps. After breakfast, we got dressed and went for cappuccinos in town and sat in a cafe. Me, I was shocked to discover my jeans were still fitting me...so hard to believe with the ...
