Bed & Breakfast La Romea Lucca

Wonderful

This was a truly fantastic find in Lucca. My wife and I were there with our teenage daughter so an extra bed was placed in the Blue Suite for us. The accommodation was first class - the personalised service was very welcome. A friendlier host and hostess would be harder to find.

Guilio was spot on with his recommendations on where to eat and what to see. On arrival, he already had a map ready for us with restaurants, antique markest, tourist office and bicycle hire all clearly marked. None of these were very far from La Romea: clear proof that the location in the heart of Lucca itself is perfect. Perfect location - rooms - welcome - breakfast - service. Cannot recommend this enough.

In addition, on the morning of our departure we had to leave early. The breakfast staff, not only served us an early meal but organised a discounted taxi to Pisa airport.

Great place to stay!

Out of the 7 different places we stayed on this trip, this ranks as one of the best. The owner Guilio was the best. He was a wealth of information and he would help with just about anything. Very cool person! The breakfast was the best here. The rooms were clean and very large. The shower was GREAT!!!!! It was good size and the floor was made out of rock. Perfect on tired feet. The location was also very convienent to many places. Good home base for day trips elsewhere. Go to the top of the town in town.

Pay for the extra parking, if you have a car. Guilio will help take care of it. GREAT place to stay!

Romantic Romea

Stayed 4 nights in the blue suite.

We arranged to be picked up at Pisa airport and it all went very smoothly (30 mins by car 40Euros or so).

Greeted on arrival and our case carried upstairs to our room.

Check-in was very relaxed and informal and we were given a map of lucca and recommendations for good local restaurants. All of which were excellent.

We paid a wee bit extra and went for the suite. The room was large and beautifully furnished. The bathroom was also large and very nice with original frescos on the wall.

Breakfast was served in the central lounge area and was the best that we had during our stay in Italy. I would especially recommend the lovely fresh lemon croissants. It was a great way to start the day.

Overall staff were very friendly and informal, rooms very beautiful and comfortable and we had a very enjoyable stay. Very central location, great value for money. I would not hesitate to recommend La Romea for any stay in Lucca and we can't wait until we go back.

La Romea was Excellent

La Romea was a beautiful, historic building very centrally placed within the picturesque walled town of Lucca. The owners, Giulio and Gaia, were so helpful and friendly and their wonderful breakfasts were an excellent start to the day. The rooms were spacious and individual with lots of character.

We would highly recommend La Romea to anyone planning a trip to Lucca or the surrounding area.

Home from home

On arrival at La Romea we immediately felt that we were being invited into someones home. Giulio and Gaia made us feel very welcome and were really helpful with suggestions for restaurants and train and bus timetables to Pisa and Florence (1/2 hour by bus and 1 1/2 hours by train respectively). There were five in our group and each of the three rooms we had were beautiful - Blue, Red & Ivory- very high ceilings with original frescos exposed. Excellent location near the centre and close to the Guinigi Tower which is a great landmark.

Lucca is lovely, the walk around the walls is worth doing and there are great restaurants and shops. We both plan to return to Tuscany and will definitely visit Lucca and stay at La Romea. We reccommend it!

Perfection in Lucca

As far as B&Bs go in Italy, this is the best. Perfect central location. Best breakfast of anywhere. Very friendly owners, who are actively involved in the operations (including their very sweet parents). The rooms are huge and well-appointed without being over-done. Nothing bad to say. Trust in La Romea.

Beautiful

My boyfriend and I just got back from a wonderful holiday in Italy. One of the main highlights was La Romea in Lucca. The room was beautiful and very romantic. I was very sad to leave and am already desperate to get back. I would not hestiate to recommend this holiday to family and friends.

A Hidden Gem

My husband and I stayed a weekend here in May 2004. Our room was large (we stayed in the Ivory Room) as was the bathroom. Quiet. Thoughful decor and renovation of an old building. The location is great as it's in the middle of Lucca within the walls. Car parking is no problem as arrangements have been made to park in an enclosed lot nearby. Plentiful and different breakfast from the usual B&B fare. Great hosts. We would stay there again.

Great find in a great city!

This gem of a B&B is located in the heart of Lucca - a GREAT homebase for northern Tuscany (Florence, Pisa, Cinque Terre, Siena, San Gimignano).The hosts are exceptional and the rooms are the most ornate and cozy we had in all of Italy. All of comforts of home. Our rooms were so spacious and finally a shower I can fit in without doing yoga!Breakfast was so large each day - breads, fruit, deli meats and cheeses, juices, coffee, yogurt, more breads, and eggs cooked to your liking.We were there on Easter and the family welcomed us in as one of their own, making special Easter breakfast yet also respecting our tourist time and helping us get to where we needed to go by calling rental cars, train times, etc.What a fabulous, special place. Truly one of the highlights of our visit to Italy. (and only a 5-10 min. FLAT walk to the train station)We were there in April 2004.
