A scary tale that needs to be told.

... people have told you about their experiences of these situations. The only advice I can give anyone is that if they ask for something hand it over, if they are threatening you with a knife or a gun that camera or phone or laptop or money is not worth risking your life.

I am so grateful that Al was with me, we keep holding each other and that fact that we can talk about it makes us feel better because we know exactly what the other has been ...

Return to Managua

... the city, tent cities full of displaced Nicaraguans, and sense of disorganization. But our stay here did give us an appreciation of the city and the tumultuous history of natural disasters and political unrest of beautiful Nicaragua.

Today we experienced government inefficiency at its best as we attempted to ship our hammocks home. After getting quotes from UPS, DHL, and Federal Express for $750 - $900 to ship one big hammock and ...

WFU Wins! 3-2

... stick. So after we got a workable batch made up... we began using the only tools we had to patch these walls... our hands. Needless to say after hours of scooping out concrete with our hands then packing it in holes in a wall, our hands were rubbed raw. My hands and underneath my fingernails still hurt! But it is all good, because tomorrow we head to the beach for a wonderful weekend of relaxation! Oh I cannot wait =)

After showering we went out to the property Wake Forest ...

Home was calling my name today..

... and is made out of donated material, and really is some nice stuff! I tried to buy some, but my debit card failed me once again (for the 4th time). I definitely need to get that fixed - I am in debt to my friends haha

Well, I am almost ready to go to bed and I am looking forward to it. I can't help but count down the days until I get home - but I am still thankful for being able to have this experience and to be down here! So.....I am ready to start a fresh new day tomorrow! =)

Granada and Masaya

Granada and Masaya were pretty good. Granada isn't the type of city you go out about at night. Nothing is open and noone is walkign around. a drastic change from the day. Everyone is out walking everywhere and crazy markets and people sellign teh most random things on every street and corner. When night comes its all packed up and in the hostel we went. traveling with Canada, Kiwi and Norway who likes to sleep on hard floors. I dont understand but each night she could have stayed in a bew ...

First day in Granada

... But it turned out to be pretty good. The waiter, boy of about 20, was really nice, spoke English, gave us recommendations, etc. We liked it a lot. So, that was our day. Went to bed late, after browsing internet, chatting, reading and swinging on the hammock. One thing about this hostel is that it is kind of quiet during the day - people do not socialize much and dont meet other people. I was looking forward to that experience so I was a little disappointed...

The Great Escape

... like their personal space! We were packed on so tight it was ridiculous, and our bags were tied to the roof and thrown down at each stop the bus made. It was a 3 hour drive, with us standing up as straight as possible, rubbing more than shoulders with the people around us. Very interesting! We arrived in Granada fairly late on and walked around for a while before we found our hostel. Why are people incapable of giving ...

Visiting volcanos in Granada

... budget somewhat!! There was also monkey island which was tiny but had 4 monkeys living on it. Next stop was to see Volcano Masaya, which is actually 2 volcanos and 5 craters - one of which is still smoking (so there were lots of toxic gases in the air!). Then it was onto a handycraft market and then to a village well know for its pottery, here we saw ...
