Uruguay

... in general.

Anyway, yesterday's outing was to Uruguay. To get to Uruguay from BA you have to travel across the Rio de la Plata, which separates the 2 countries. Our hotel is only about a half mile from the boat station so we walked there in the morning and caught an 8:30 ferry to Colonia Del Sacramento, Uruguay. Yes that's right, Sacramento, but they mostly just call it Colonia over there. It takes about an hour on the boat to arrive ...

You can pay for school but you can't buy class

Tuesday, September 08, 2009

So I decided that one of the best parts of having a blog like this is that it is a great way of avoiding the homework that I actually should be doing. Not that the work is really difficult or anything. It has just been a little harder then usual to get back into this whole school thing. Yesterday was the first day I actually had this whole school thing going on, and I decided that Argentina is ...

¡Hola Chicos y Chicas!

I am currently sitting on the floor in the one corner of the house where the internet has decided to work.

Last weekend I had a fabulous time in Punta Leona. When we got there on Friday we had an all-you-can eat buffet (which we had three times a day… it was glorious). At lunch, that first day there were monkeys everywhere, and one came so close to me that I jumped up and ran away (shocking ...

Recoleta Explored

... finding some hippie jewelry.  We left the fair with lots of earrings, bracelets, a shirt, and some watercolors (don't worry mom, no .  Most importantly, Mike bought a head massager that looks like it is some alien tool.  Then we hit the National Gallery of Arts, and saw some classic paintings, along with some terribly boring stuff.  When I was in Buenos Aires before, I had the best steak of my life at a place called La Brigada.  We went back to where it was ...

Buenos Aires - The City of Great Expectations

... Though I will admit it ended up being a lot tighter than it should have been and it came down to within a metre in the end with Stephen Jones dropping a penalty short. Not many fingernails left in the pub after that). Anyway a win is a win and Ireland were Grand Slam Champions! The first time in my whole trip I wished I was back in Ireland, or even better back in London! Once again the place was hopping and it was like Tuesday all over ...

I love Buenos Aires. I think I would still love it if I hadn't just come from ****** Bolivia and 5 months of skanky backpacking but I love it even more for that. Spent today in San Telmo, the bohemian part of town. There is a fantastic Portobello-style flea market where I browsed for a couple of hours, my contentment only marred by a mean man who berated me for touching a small wooden chess set on his stall. I was only counting the pieces ...

Last stop

... When we got to the airport, we were wonderfully surprised to see Witek and Mariela there. They had come by to drop off our sunglass case that we left at their house, along with a couple of gifts and to save us a spot in line as well. It was very nice to see them and great to feel that we have an extra set of parents all the way in Argentina. We truly will miss them and the country. Adios!

Finally here!

... an invitation to join them at their weekend house in south-Buenos Aires, or just outside, still not quite sure yet:) Of course I happily accepted, which is how, less than 24 hours after leaving, I was back at their house again on Saturday morning with everything I needed for a weekend in ¨the country¨! And it was good.... Nice and cool, and quiet! One of the most surprising things about B.A. is that there´s always noise... Everywhere and all the time ...

Stop-Over in Europe!

... After check-in we started our city experience at the centre, taking the Subte down to Plaza 25 de Mayo. This is the location of Madonna's famous speech on the balcony of the Presidential Palace(OK it was actually Eva Peron). From there we cruised the ridiculously busy Florida street, stopped by a few stores and one very high class mall before taking a break in one of the beautiful parks. That night we were hunting for more steak ...

Lunes y Martes
