... Then we happened upon "Art on the River" - a whole area filled with a wide variety of artists. We ate lunch at "Clingman's Cafe" and sat outside on a sunny patio - lovely! We left this morning around 8:50 - travelling to Ashville today. It was a lovely drive through the mountains. More colour in the trees than what we saw in the park. 15 degrees today!! Arrived at Lake Powhatan State park near Ashville around noon. Found 2 campsites, set up camp, had lunch and headed out for a hike on Mt. Mitchell. ... Hollow Branch. This waterfall is smaller than the others - maybe 30 feet - but it had the best water flow. A leaning tree was right in front of the waterfall making photos challenging, but I found an angle to shoot with the tree framing the falls. ... but we are treated to free beer on arrival and then seemingly for the rest of the night. Dinner on site with soup paninni (gluten free for me) and apple or Pecan pie for afters. Great hospitality from Phil - the guy who runs the site. He couldn't do enough to help and hopefully he will be able to help me source some new tyres in the morning.

The drive back was so nice. Good talks, beautiful scenery (thanks to a wrong turn), and it finally cooled down. We ended the night with some BBQ, at a place that was truly hopping. It was so much fun. ...
