Today has been a real adventure. In a few days we'll laugh about the adrenaline rush of racing thru Paris on our bikes, like we in some great rally race, or an American car chase. We were told that we could not take our bikes on the Subway, so in order to get from Paris Nord station, we would have to ride to Montparnasse station, for our trip south. It was only 6 kms, Google maps said it would take 36 minutes, the ticket guy, 40 mins, and we had all of 1 hour and 12 mins. No worries. ...

This morning was grey, wet, and the long drive took it's toll on our enthusiasm for Chateau D'Oiron near Loudun. This chateau is quite austere and shows little warmth and sign of having been lived in. The main point is that it has a display of quirky modern art installations. The basic theme is that some of the old ...

Our guests walked 8 kms before breakfast and we spent some time notionally spending the prize from the lottery drawn last night. After checking our tickets at Juan's coffee shop we put together a picnic and spent the day beside the Vienne river and at Chateau Rivau to keep within our original budgets. Rivau, being a Chateau of the Beauvau family who were supporters of the counts of Anjou, was fortified in 1445 and 'Royal stables' were built soon after. Jean of Arc ...

A trip to Tours to recharge ipad and shop before revisiting the Morinières farm for it's monthly market day. Coming home with provisions fresh from the farm for the next two days we waited out thethunderstorm which finished a small heatwave of 34 degrees. At eight we were seated in L'Aigle D'Or for what turned out to be a special night of good food and some old wines. A 2008 sancerre and a 1999 medoc after a cremant de Loire had us in the mood to open up just like the ...

... been reconstructed. Chinon reminds us a little of Amboise with the town square between the river and the fortress. We had lunch in the historic square of Chinon which is a lovely French town with lots of character. We then went on to the chateau of Azay Le Rideau renowned for its fairy tale turrets and setting - also set up against the water on one side. Much smaller than ...
