We left Liege this morning at 10:30 and made excellent time through two locks and 35 km to Huy. On the way the beautiful Belgian scenery was spoiled by derelict industrial facilities beside the river-- very unimpressive for about 20km of the whole trip. 8th Leaving The Netherlands One thing about any other country to The Netherlands is the topography-- it has some variation. The photos show a number of scenes going into the Lanaye Ecluse (Belgian/French for "lock"). This was one very big lock and it was more crowded than any we'd experienced before. Lucky we were the first pleasure boat in after the two barges had taken most of the room, so we were able to get a very stable position on our preferred starboard side. (Don't ask me ...

... and 'lardons' (bacon pieces) salad, and my favourite Leffe blond beer; Pete a lovely gammon steak with mustard sauce. The tour does not start from Antwerp til 1.40 pm, so we don't expect it til after 3pm. We chat with a number of fellow diners who are impressed we have come from Australia to see the race. I try and explain Pete's croquet, but I don't think it gets through! We are back in French speaking Belgium, after our time in the very different Flemish speaking ...
