... Day in Sicily is St. Joseph's Day. Joseph was a pancake seller when the housing market crashed so pancakes are the food choice for Father's Day. Driving in Italy is quite the experience. Signage is poor. The drivers never mind the speed limit, never signal lane changes or turns, and have no patience. ... caught the 8pm ferry across to Naples because it worked out cheaper and quicker than driving back through Sicily and up the boot of Italy. We were supposed to arrive at 8am, only to be awoken from our cabin at 06h00 because we'd made good time during the night. It was then onto Barrea in the mountains!

We woke up after a brilliant nights sleep and again the sun was shining. Feeling good we all got dressed for some exercise. I ran along another brilliant coastal road, today was the hottest yet. Sweating and flustered I boldly suggested we go straight for a swim. Well I was the bravest and got in up to my thighs, the boys managed their toes and that was it - it was more like an ice bath. We retreat to the roof…to examine the chimney for any clues to this shift of smoke. The concrete chimney – mostly unnoticed by me until now sits atop our roof top terrace. The chimney seems to have been engineered by someone who has no concept of air flow or wind. There is not a hole at the top of the chimney…oh no…that would be too easy.

... in the mountains about 45 minutes from Palermo. It was so nice to get out of the city and experience the "real" Sicilian village lifestyle. The day was filled with sunshine, wonderful views of the city below and delicious donuts in a street side café.
