This morning got off to a rocky start. We took a "shortcut" which looked extremely promising on the map, however, the dirt road gradually turned into a two track and then a sand path through a swamp which was infested with most of the world's mosquitoes. Who knew mosquitoes loved Italy too? Eventually we pushed the bikes through the soft sand for about a kilometer while fighting off and ingesting the mosquitoes ...
We rode in the rain today, along a busy road with big trucks, then we got lost. Actually getting lost was not my fault. The map was incorrect. It showed a road direct to our destination, but when we got there the road was blocked by a large pile of rocks to prevent cars from going through. Fortunately bikes are not cars.
