    ... wall. The mura di Lucca, or wall of Lucca, was designed by Leonardo Da Vinci for defensive purposes. But, Lucca was never attacked. However, the walls did protect Lucca from flooding, or so I read. During the Napoleon era, the walls were offcially demilitarized and, since then, have served as park and walkway for both pedestrians and bicyclists.

The staff were happy to find gf alternatives for me and so proudly produced this beautiful off-menu dessert that I did not have the heart to say I'd rather not eat dairy thanks!     ... Italia! We went out last night & had the most incredible meals.. Aldente pasta & the sauce so delicious I was tempted to lick my plate;) We had a few drinks at a locals bar afterwards & I was mesmerized by the people. I could just people watch for hours!     ... it's all lanes and pedestrian in the main apart from locals. There are a lot of push bikes here too, which weave their way through the walkers. We were tired so had Nanna naps after a late lunch. tea was just an omelette in the Piazza Anfiteatro. This Piazza occupies the space previously occupied by the roman amphitheatre.
