... cavernous hole in the hills. The museum was in a labyrinth of a building which confused us considerably - large areas were closed including its signature piece; a marble statue of Venus. R charmed the curator to give us a private tour of the museum starting with the statue of Venus and before we knew it he was taking us hither and thither, just "altra cosa", as he pointed out fine details of exhibits which most punters would never see.

Ragusa, like much of this part of Sicily, was destroyed by an earthquake in 1693 and most of the major churches and palazzos were built in the Baroque style.
