Arrival to Bali

A travel blog entry by maexme

We left Kalibaru early heading to the ferry to cross to Bali Island. The time zone in Bali is different than Java by 1 hour, and we wanted to use as much time in Bali as we could.
The ferry to Bali is friendly, we did not have to wait muhc before we started crossing, but did have about half an hour wait before being able to dock in Bali. It …

Bali Begins

We arrived to the ferry terminal in good time and the 2 hour journey afforded beautiful views of the east Javan countryside. The road twisted alongside the bus and I could make out 10‘s of people bathing in the river. These people live in small huts alongside the water and since it is too expensive for households to connect to the water …

Goodbye Java, Hello Bali

Took the ferry from Ketapang to Gilmanuk which only cost 6,500INR and although only a few kilometres across the Selat Bali (Bali Sea) took an hour due to the circuitous route the ferries take due to the strong currents that prevent them going the most direct route straight across. After a brief meander round Gilmanuk looking for a cheap place to stay but failing miserably, thought i might camp at the Park Headquarters ...

Pemuteran and Manjangan Island

A travel blog entry by jamie-lee

So after Gilimanuk we packed up again and off on the bus to the next town Pemuteran. We didn't really like Pemuteran as much as Gilimanuk.

It took quite awhile to find a place to stay. Simon stayed with the bags and off I went in search for accommodation. Everywhere was either full or expensive as it is now high season. One place had doubled in price from the week before. I finally reached a home stay who was full but he offered to take me ...

Market, waterfall, views, temple, gardens

A travel blog entry by liz_turner

Yasmin was going to go to see dolphins this morning, but seeing she spent a lot of the night in the bathroom she did not. But still someone knocked on our door at 05:10 & 05:30! We left eventually at a leisurely 10:00! First stop the local Seririt market, with food, clothes, etc in it. Next we visited Munduk waterfall, a long walk down but worth it, I'm so glad that this supposedly 'dry" season has been so ...

The staff is very attentive, remembering everyone's name and making you feel like at home. The rooms nicely decorated, clean and the open air bathroom a highlight. It's a nice location to say when planning on going snorkeling or diving in the area, or when crossing from Java. Personal favorite moment at the hotel was the 5pm tea, when the staff serves tea and local sweets to all guests in the hotel.
