Mt Washington is 6288 feet high, so since we were in the vicinity, we decided to do a day's hike up to the top. The mountain has the reputation of having the world's worst weather, totally unpredictable and extreme. Undeterred, we headed off in glorious weather, puffing a bit since we were out of form. ... miles or so on to Rutland, a much bigger town hampered by major roadworks on Main Street. We reached our motel, the Highlander (the dearest and worst we've experienced so far). As we bid Vermont farewell we reflect upon the incredible beauty of this area and the state has made some incredibly smart choices in order to keep the “Green Mountain State” beautiful. They do not allow billboards.

Onward to New York and the Adirondack Mountains!

Today's reruns of choice were episodes of NCIS, conveniently screened on the same channel as the Law & Order marathon from yesterday. Now we may have still had leftovers, and we may have still been chilling around the hotel until mid afternoon.

We did decide however, that since we had so much time to spare and had explored most of the town already (think of Rutland as like a Bunbury with mountains), that we should start packing ...
