... near Bruce Bay and then continued on into The Mount Cook National Park again - we were here days ago but on other side of the mountains at Aoraki where where we went Glacier boating. So we have checked in and sounded out our helicopter flight for tomorrow arvo - it is on if the pilot can see out of the window - yay, does not inspire me with confidence. We will go Glacier viewing from the base if the weather is ok in the morning but will wait and see.

... br> Despite getting almost-bogged, and the camper acting like a windsail and trying to throw me off the road on several occasions, I arrived safely at Franz Josef Glacier. I settled down ready for a cold night in. I headed for a shower and as I did, the weather cleared, giving me a chance to go for a bit of a walk around to see what this place was like. Stunning views greeted me once more, and gave me a taste of what I hope is to come tomorrow.
... blue skies that you see in the brochures, but wow! What an wonderful experience. We got out for a few minutes and threw snowballs, took some photos and just basked in the spirit of the place, before it was time to get back into the chopper and fly around some more before heading back to Fox.
All I can say is that this was completely worth it, and I can't believe it took us so long to make a decision. It's cool walking up to the glaciers, but ...

Getting to the glacier itself, we were allowed about 250 metres away from it as it would be presumably too dangerous with rocks falling otherwise, it was pretty ace. Perhaps there was slightly warped expectations of it, but the magnitude of it was still appreciated and admired.
