We had breakfast in our ensuite cabin and were on the road again by 8am. We were booked on to a Franz Josef Glacier Heli-Hike at 12.30pm, which is a 3.5 hour drive from Wanaka. ... likened it to a cowboy town you see in the old westerns. Wooden built small terraced shops with a veranda the whole length of the terrace. This is the height of summer and the town was buzzing but certainly not crowded. Time for coffee sat in the sunshine chilling, could have sat there all day watching the world go by. The northern stretch SH6 was completed by two teams of workers. One of the teams heading south from Ross and the other heading north crossing the Haast River. The two teams met at a picturesque place along the coast north of Haast.
