... month which always helps to give the tour a good atmosphere.
The glacier itself was huge and we could see ice and snow in all directions. It seemed that every few steps there was another great view or ice ravine to peer into. I ended up taking far too many photos...again. The ice was really thick but of varied density. Less oxidised sections appeared blue in colour, creating pretty streaks and patterns in the more transparent ...

... contort out through a very tight space at the end. The ride back was just as amazing. After lunch I went for a walk in rainforest. Not as exciting as the morning, although it's pretty cool that you can be on a glacier and go to a rainforest on the same day, without hardly travelling anywhere. The walk was very nice anyway, and it was more rainforest than bush. I had some amazing beef cheeks in a red wine and redcurrant sauce for dinner. Not a bad day at ...

We spent the morning in Hokitika. First off on the beach again, no0one else there at 10am. Then went to the National Kiwi Centre to see....Kiwis. The Tua Tara dinosaur lizards were hiding away, too cold for them we thought. The eels (locally known as tuna but nothing like a tuna fish we would know) were a bit creepy - loads of them in a big tank, mostly 80-100 years old, with the oldest at 130. Out the back was an indoor lake with crayfish in it, with bait and hooks for you to ...

... ice formations, crevasses and even a river, which runs underneath the entire glacier. Another epic helicopter ride back down and we are all still buzzing off our trip, so after cooling off we dip into the hot pools provided by the company, ranging from 36 to 40 degrees, perfect to relax and warm through! This evening for dinner the resort puts on a pizza buffet dinner, leaving no hungry mouths and with a bottle of red it all seems to slide down pretty ...

... views the whole way around the hike. It was set along a costal path, winding through forests, hugging the coastline at points and offering us numerous look outs and entrances to the empty sandy beaches below us. We had an amazing picnic on the beach, having it to ourselves. The walk was not strenuous but very fulfilling. Every turn presented vibrant blue sky's, azure lapping waters, green luscious forests and pale yellow sandy beaches. It is certainly a must-do for ...
