Mile 1055 Alaska Highway Yukon, Canada, Y0B 1H0, 011-33-478-011-491
Thursday, July 21 Today is a travel day, 250 miles from Valdez to Tok, as we begin our journey out of Alaska. Going back up the Thompson Canyon was as beautiful as coming down and the weather was once again preventing us from seeing the mountain tops. Once we broke out of the canyon the clouds broke a bit and we did catch some of the wonderful scenery. Because we had got an early (8am) departure we stopped several times to stretch and read the roadside signs which identified some of the mount...
Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada pat-don-alaska... with all the dust. Right now it is mostly sunny and 60. The Yukon River is very big and deep and rushing. It goes through a canyon here at Whitehorse. It has a dam on it now. When they built the dam, they built a ladder for the salmon to swim up on and over the dam to get to their spawning place. Salmon always return to their spawning place to spawn and then die.
Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada schroederd... tempted us with the tales of these delicacies for days and our saliva is making the Alaska Highway slippery! Our first cinnamon bun trial was at the Continental Divide Lodge. These were pretty good with lots of gooey, sugary cinnamon between the rolled layers of dough. The second one that we tried was the "world-famous" Johnson's Crossing bun. In my opinion, it wasn't as good as the other ...
Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada nocknock... for Nitchie. That’s another of her favorite things; 2nd only to riding.
Wendell is preparing dinner tonight. We had rice left over from last night’s dinner so he is making chicken-fried rice. Just thinking about it is making me hungry. Of course, anyone familiar with Wendell’s cooking talents also knows it takes him 4 times as long to prepare anything as it does the normal cook…..and he uses all the dishes in the house. Usually ...
Hello Family and Friends,
Since you last heard from us, we have traveled 1734 miles! Took off from Lethridge on the 17th of June for Calgary and the Banff area. Highway 1 has a wonderful bypass, so it's easy to avoid Calgary and sure wish we had been on it!! Somehow we landed right in downtown Calgary......brick pavers and all! Thanks to the kindness of the Meals on Wheels ladies, we were escorted (after carefully ...
... for diesel. I think the cheapest gas was just over $1.00 per ltr. It is after 10:00 and daylight. Better get to bed because you all know how Bill is in the morning when there are places to go. Most mornings I am still brushing my teeth when I hear the pickup start and the camper jacks being put up. O'well, gotta love him. Hope everything is going well with all of you! More later!
Johnson's Crossing, Yukon, Canada bwmuzik... at +0 temps. It was truly weird skiing with no gloves, hat, wearing only ski pants with no long johns , one layer of long underwear top with no shell after skiing with two layers plus vests, jackets, balaclavas, mitts. The races, themselves were outstanding. We watched Individual and team sprints as well as the Classic/Skating pursuits. As the host country, Canada got to enter more skiers than normal so some of the younger skiers got to race with the big guns ...
Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada hcb... of some deep wounds I'd been carrying, that lost parts of my soul have returned to me and I am whole once more. I learned of many things that I pray I live each day. I am grateful for the gifts and blessings I received in Eagle Plains from my teacher who fixes tires. As I finally drove south leaving the Dempster Highway, I saw a red fox with a fresh kill dangling from her mouth. She looked right at me and kept trotting ...
Eagle Plains, Yukon, Canada ldambrosio1... my tent as quick as I can. Move it, Keesha! Kill mosquitoes. Look up at the screen, there's got to be 100 of them up there waiting. Sunrise. Sort of. Twilight ended. Leave early and quickly, chased by mosquitoes. Rock, gravel, gravel, rock, dust, dust, dust. Get to the Northwest Territories Border. Photo Op. Peel River. Wait for ferry. Cross. Rock, gravel, gravel, rock, dust, dust, dust. Mountains that have fold in them. Fort MacPhearson. Gas ...
Fort MacPhearson, Yukon, Canada ldambrosio1June 30, 2005 Three hundred beautiful miles on the Alaska Highway today; bumpy but beautiful. The day was a long one but the scenery was outstanding. The Yukon is a most attractive Territory. We stopped in Hanes Junction to tour a nifty visitor's center (Kluane Park) and have lunch. The road was good but there were about thirty miles of construction that were a ...
