The Elmwood B&B is located only a few hundred yards from the parking lot at the trailhead up Croagh Patrick, the conical 2,500 foot (770 meter) tall mountain that dominates the area.     ... gale force winds was the challenging part. From there, we cut inland hoping to blunt the winds. Aughnanure, is an Irish Tower Fort nicely defended on three sides by a river and the fourth by fortifications. We were not able to go inside the tower as it suffered water damage and was closed for repairs in the first time in 41 years. Still, the site is well preserved and worth some time to visit.     ... at around 12C, with wind gusts making if feel much cooler. We continued following the Wild Atlantic Way, taking the Skye Road out of Clifden for some wonderful views out to distant islands and along ancient fjords carved by glaciers in previous ice ages.     ... Tomorrow we head down to Killarney. It has rained constantly and heavily today and been about the same temperature as home in winter. Hoping for brighter weather tomorrow.
    We are impressed with the countryside which is exceptionally green - no wonder with all the rain they get - but also the size of the houses.
