... it was amusing that they needed to keep the Canadians out. Apparently before 911 you never saw them but understandably they have become more vigilant in the intervening years. Due to the number of islands, the amount of boat traffic and proximity to the mainland these islands were somewhat of a smuggling route for whatever wasn't allowed. The biggest item of recent years being "BC Bud" which was regularly smuggled in until Washington state decriminalised ...
