Survive Mumbai, survive the world.........?

... British for themselves and those in their favour you can imagaine their once mighty grandeur. Now they are along dark dusty streets slowly crum, bliong away. Tress with branches sweeping down to the pavement block the sunlight and in those strange moments when you get a second of slience in a city it could easily pass for the set of a post-apolytic movie.

Easy as pie i met a load of other people travelling including 3 girls from Italy who were living in Mumbai for a year ...

Babu, Ali Baba and the two small thieves

... the last ridge and looked down to the parked camels and Ali. Eric saw Ali re-zipping Eric's bag, and returning it to it's proper location on the camel. Busted ! Ali was going through the bags, while the kids kept us occupied out of view.

I am glad Eric was on his game.I had not paid too much attention as I had no dollars in our bags. Apparnetly Eric had some money in his bag. There was still some left, but he may have lost a few thousand rupees. He ...

Into the Desert - Jaisalmer

... heading to the fort, we arranged to go together and set off to see the sights. As the day wore on I began to suspect that Kazuma didn't understand a single word I was saying, and what I took to mean nods of interest or agreement were in fact polite gestures without meaning. Nevertheless, we got on famously and proceeded to visit the fort and a couple of Havelis (houses of the rich) which were beautifully ornate. Having explored the narrow streets and ...

Camel Safari

... in a small shop at the bottom of the restaurant. I picked up a long sleeved cotton shirt to keep the sun off during the camel safari as well as a cottom scarf to wrap around my head and face for protection as well. I felt like a total Desert Princess and ready to take on the camels. We headed back to our hotel and had a 2 hour nap in preparation for our trek. I quickly grabbed a bite to eat before donning my Desert Princess outfit (with khaki colored ...

James & Nicola of Arabia

... before it falls down!) It's sandstone walls and impressive buildings make it a very attractive place to walk around with plenty of shops and restaurants. We had lunch at a small home stay style place (Vyas Meals) where the old lady made Thali from fresh which was really, really, really, really good and we spent the afternoon in a cafe chilling out, relaxing, doing a bit of shopping before going back to the hotel. Had a quick dinner before catching our night train back to Jodhpur.

Jaisalmer

... the noise gave me a headache and I moved right to the end of the restaurant to have a more peaceful dinner after realizing after the first piece of music it was going on for the whole night! I read that the musicians expect a tip as do most in the industry dealing with foreign tourists, I was not appreciative of the noise and damage to my peace. Sorry no tips ... The musicians were all smiles and namaste when we walked by behind them.

TRAVELLING THAR AND WIDE!

From the comfort of our 'Cosy Guesthouse' we went on westwards through the Thar desert to Jaisalmer and the not so friendly fellow at the 'Ratan Palace'. Camel safari's are BIG business out here so we were not his favourite people when we decided to go with 'Mr Desert'(oh yes!) instead of him for our adventure on camel-back. The aforementioned 'Mr D' was hard to turn ...

Meet the self proclaimed "Desert King"

... curried veggies, dahl, rice & roti...much to Melissa's misery....she's so had it with the Ashram diet. Fortunately, she had a private stash of peanut butter, bananas, bread & chips. As we settled in for the night, Arkaram asked if i would send him a cassette from home. "Absolutely!" i volunteered....only to find that what he was actually asking me for was a cd player....and best if i just buy it in Jaisalmir, as it will get lost coming from Canada. This made me sad. We ...

A very large sandcastle

... in Rajasthan = small so probably would not be too good! The next day we headed out for breakfast with a breathtaking view of the fort. It literally looks like it is built on a pile of sand and with its golden colour truly resembles a sand castle. It is on the list of the worlds 100 most endangered sites. When the fort was built there were no fancy toilets or drainage systems so little water was drained out there. The water wash collected ...
