This morning I woke up at 10am and tried to tempt JP to wake up with breakfast in bed. After showering and getting dressed, we put on a load of washing, tidied our room and tried to sort out our plan for the next few days. Unfortunately STA are taking an age to get back to me about my flights and STA NZ can't help as I booked my flights in the UK - very irritating. ... is a Department of Conservation camp-site should you decide to spend a night there.

Our day started at 5.00 am, an hour's bus ride to the waterfront to catch the 9.15 ferry. After a full day's walking we caught the 4.00 pm ferry back to the mainland, tired but happy to have achieved another goal.

If all this sounds like too much, there is the option of taking a guided tour in a canopied road train.

... realised what a bank holiday was like here. Everyone was leaving Auckland but luckily we were going into the city. It is Waitangi day when they celebrate the signing of the treaty with the Maoris. Considering the Maoris are less than happy with the treaty now it's a little insensitive celebrating this event but I don't think Maoris have ever been know to turn down a day off so they have to bite their tongues. ...

... and life vest drill, we enjoyed the sail away at 6 pm out of Auckland (seeing some of the places we've already visited from a slightly higher up perspective) and our first dinner on board which was very enjoyable.
