Next stop, Cambria, an artsy crafty town on the beach and the place to stay if you want to visit the famous/infamous Hearst Castle. Lots of nice shops, restaurants, and beach tracks for leisurely strolls. Enroute to Cambria we stopped in Solvang, a danish town, featuring everything Danish including wonderful Danish breakfasts - yum! Of course, what …
This stop was originally for 4 nights, but was shortened to 3, which worked for me in many ways.
When I first got there, I was not sure I was even in the right campground. I thought it was right on the ocean. After my secluded, hill-top campsite at Manrisa, I was spoiled. Shortly after I got set up, the crowds started coming in. My neighbors were a couple with 3 daughters. The mom, Erin, introduced ...

We all managed to score some great bargains from places like Oakley, The North Face, Columbia and Nike just to name a few.. After putting a nice dent in our spending ( some people's dents are more like canyons ) money we headed off on a 3 hour drive to a very nice little town called Cambria! Although it was dark when we arrived you can tell ...

The rest of the day was spent driving down the coast line, stopping off at view points and for two walks in Lime Kiln State Park. The park has waterfalls and some ...

Historical Traveler Reviews J. Patrick House Bed and Breakfast Cambria
Best B&B between San Diego and San Francisco
My partner and I spent one night at the J. Patrick House and it was a superb experience. We ate at a great restaurant recommended by our host in Cambria. We were on the road for most of the day and found the room exceedingly confortable - I feel asleep within 30 minutes of relaxing on a the bed. The breakfast was wonderful, it was Christmas Eve and the whole place charmingly decorated for Christmas. We had to hit the road before 9am and regretted leaving so soon. Next time we visit Cambria that will be our home base, very convenient off of US 1 but also in a quiet and forested road. From the furnishings to the food and the service, it was great. Most highly recommended!
My hustand and I have just returned from the J. Patrick House in Cambria. It was an experience that was so exquisite - far beyond our expectations. The innkeepers, John and Ann, were so very nice - generous with both their time and knowledge of the area. John is a fabulous cook - makes the BEST granola imaginable!!! Ann has a special way of viewing the world - one that makes all cares melt away. The inn is an authentic log cabin with a carriage house. The decor and amenities are first class. And yet, the room rates are certainly reasonable. Breakfast in the light-filled garden room is truly to die for. And then there are those killer chocolate chip cookies ... There is so much more that can be said, but let me leave it at this: J. Patrick House is an experience not to be missed. I know it will deeply touch your heart and soul as it did ours.
Please don't go there!
The quaint, sleepy, comfortable little cottages with fireplaces (or cast iron stoves) in the bedrooms was an outstanding way to stay in Cambria. The owners, (John and Ann) and the staff we met, were like old friends after the short time we spent with them. Excellent food (like homemade granola and apricot cream cheese) awaited us at breakfast and homemade chocolate chip cookies and milk (lactose free was even supplied for me!) met us for bed at night. Oue celebration of a birthday and anniversary was met with a "what can we do to help celebrate" attitude. So...please don't go there! We want it for ourselves! :)
Absolutley perfect place to go and just relax...
The J.Patrick House should be Cambria's Official Place To Stay.
This place is amazing.
It's SO beautiful, so quiet and serene. Fireplace in your bedroom, wine and cheese at night, amazing places to eat in town, what more could you ask for?
My husband and I just came back from our Honeymoon and we had another WONDERFUL time (this is our 2nd time going back)
If anyone has any questions about this place, feel free to contact me! I can pretty much tell you right now that you'll only hear glowing reviews!!
The beautiful, secluded California Central Coast in Cambria - a great place to spend your time any time of the year. We were there for two nights when it was cool and rainy. Most memorable: A very warm, friendly staff and an excellent two-course breakfast , gas fireplace and an endless supply of good firewood, a fabulously comfortable bed (just right) with cozy comforter and lots of lush pillows. special soaps, shampoos, and luxurious touches, quiet rooms separate from the main house, very cozy main house with plenty of board games, large fire place, and happy guests (who've been sleeping in a room totally different in decor from yours but equally as comfortable) for breakfast and evenings. Very convenient to the excellent shops, galleries, and eateries of Cambria. You'll be coming back to this one.
We recently stayed at the J Patrick House B&B for two nights. Our room was immaculate (the cleanest B&B that we have ever stayed at), the breakfasts were very good, and the cookies and milk available at bedtime were yummy. They even served wines and snacks before we all headed out to dinner. The hosts were gracious and helpful. We stayed in the annex, behind the main house, and it was extremely quiet. No street noises. We would definitely return.
We had a lovely time at the J. Patrick House in Cambria in August of this year. Since it is a bed and breakfast, I took all of our personal needs such as hair dryer, shower caps, etc. To
Wonderful bed & breakfast
Wonderful Bed & Breakfast has nicely decorated rooms and a delicious breakfast. Staff was very helpful in recommending local restaurants, and even made the reservations for us.
A Warm Welcome
From the comfortable beds, thru' the cookies at bedtime to the superb breakfast each day (we snagged some recipes) the J. Patrick House lived up to the very highest standards. We stayed in the main house and from 7pm 'til 7am it was our own oasis.
A great place for a getaway.
Great experience in the main house
My wife and I stayed in this B&B in April 2000 for our anniversary for two nights--one in the main building (Clare room) and the other in one of the other rooms. The innkeepers were wonderful. The gourmet breakfast was delicious. There were several other couples there and they all raved about this place. If you want the whole place for yourself, you need to stay in the main building. It was very cozy and quiet. The other room at the back of the house was also very charming and cozy but not as quiet. We highly recommend this place for any ocassion. p.s. the milk and cookies late in the afternoon were delicious.
