... Arrived in Juneau about 11:30am. After an early lunch we disembarked the ship for a short shuttle ride up to the township of Juneau. Juneau is located at the base of two towering mountains in the heart of Alaska's Inside passage and is home to a rich Gold Rush history. Juneau's population is about 33,000 people. The town is landlocked with sea and air the only way in or out of the town. This area receives a lot of rain and only has about 44 ...

Garth and Lisa reported that the Antiquarian book shop was terrific and once you ascended the steep streets to ...

Stunning area to be in and the salmon at lunch was excellent. On the way back, there was talk of Orcas playing and feeding nearby. Our boat detoured over (we could see the Mendenhall glacier in the distance & see where the glacier water was running into the ocean water) and found a small pod of Orcas - including a baby. We watched ...

We had a slow start, deliberately, as all this holidaying takes it out of you. I David find I get tired. Vacations are not for the faint hearted! The Mendenhall Glacier was our destination for today (a very small part of an astonishing ice field here that extends for 4000 square km - breathtaking to imagine: we passed on the helicopter flight to see five of the glaciers). The weather looked a little better than yesterday's ...
