Today was supposed to be a rain day so we planned things that didn't require good weather. As it turned out it was a beautiful day - probably over 19 degrees!! We started out at the Folk Center - many great pieces from local artisans including quilting, pottery, paintings, woodworking, jewellery no more. Then we drove to the Builtmore Estate - home of the Vanderbuilts. We didn't actually see it ... A very ...

... chose the route to Mt. Mitchell via Blue Ridge Pkwy. However, partway along, we found that the road was closed. So, we continued along the open road to Waynesville and from there to Burnsville North Carolina. After inquiring at an information center, we discovered that we still had an hour+ to go soooo, we perused a couple of shops and headed back home. We bought firewood and the 4 of us enjoyed a lovely campfire with wine and apps... A great ...

We played around at the base of the falls, getting pictures and goofing off, then started making our way back to the ...

After not seeing each other for 3 months, we decided it would be a good idea for our first activity to be a 2.5 hour road trip (each way) up to Asheville, NC. Two people. One Acura (Japanese Princess). No air conditioning. Roll out.
We tried to go to the Biltmore Estate, but it was CRAZY expensive, so we just went to the city and wandered around in the awful ...

      Brevard Waterfalls

... in the heavy rain. Here the water was again very brown and muddy. A couple of people in bathing suits came down to the falls and were planning to swim, but decided against it due to the mud. We headed back to the cars and several people were tired of the rain and wanted to go back to camp. So I hopped in the car with Justine, Grace, Isabel, and Monica and we continued on for more waterfalls. We got on Shoal Creek Road, which turns into Forest Road ...
