... VA. Leaving just a four hour drive for today. In bright sunshine. And cloudless skies. Hot damn.

Smaller bites of travel gave me a more relaxed demeanor and it was an eye-opening, refreshing joy to drive through the rolling hills of the South. Where there are juxtapositions of old and new literally feet apart -- modern farm equipment next to what was once a functioning, proud barn but is now a structure dilapidated, rotting wood embraced by vine and neglect. ...

When we were done, we hiked back to the car and then made our way into Brevard for dinner at El Ranchero. Nothing like some good Mexican food and beer after a long day of hiking and exploring. We made it back to camp a little bit before dark and socialized around the campfire before getting to ...

The Blue Ridge Parkway runs for 469 miles (755 kms) along the Appalachian Chain of mountain ridges of the eastern USA. Commenced in 1935, it was finally completed in 1987. It avoids all population centres and built up areas, so one sees virtually nothing man-made, other than the parkway itself, along the entire route. It is maintained by the National Park Service with no toll fees applied. ...
