You may think this is a strange title but that was our day on Wednesday. Words and pictures cannot capture the sights we saw today. The day was sparkling as we crawled into our Silver Bullet to begin our journey south on Hwy 1 to Morro Bay. First stop was Carmel-by-the-Sea. Unbelievably fairytale-like! The tree lined streets, the beautiful cottage-like homes and the amazing beach made for an idyllic setting. At 9:30 AM, the beach and streets were busy with ...

We started the day slowly and calmly and I'm pleased to say it all went well. When I woke Tilda up this morning pretty much the first thing she said to me was, "What age do you get bunions?" Matilda discovered bunions fairly recently and knows it's a bit of a family female curse and it looks like all this walking has caused sore feet, which has her thinking. Evan rang Avis as soon as they opened at 8 to arrange our transfer to North Hollywood ...

We woke to a beautiful morning and set off to drive the Big Sur. Today was all about whales, seals and cyclists. About 8 miles from Carmel we saw a school of about 8 humpbacked whales. What a sight! There was more whale watching later on. We passed a Naval Facility at Point Sur. The coastline was very rugged and beautiful. Some flies around today which was a bit of a nuisance. .We could not stop at every viewpoint, there were so many. We have seen ...

Day 11, Carpinteria – If a reunion of too many years passed could be organized to be as wonderful as imaginable, it couldn’t be any better than it was for us to visit with our “best man” Berkeley. I first met Berkeley Breathed shortly before he won the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 1987. He had just purchased a Coanda 54 and I was referred to him by a shady yacht broker and ex-father-in-law to be ...

What a relief to leave Los Angeles - no offense to our friends and family living there, but it was probably the least relaxing place we have been on the trip so it was perfect that we followed it up with a stop at Carpinteria State Park, about two hours North and right on the coast. This would be the most expensive campsite we have had thus far, and would prove to be well worth it. When we pulled in, we cringed at the sight of so many tents and RVs packed into ...
