      Today was supposed to be a rain day so we planned things that didn't require good weather. As it turned out it was a beautiful day - probably over 19 degrees!!       ... chose the route to Mt. Mitchell via Blue Ridge Pkwy. However, partway along, we found that the road was closed. So, we continued along the open road to Waynesville and from there to Burnsville North Carolina.       ... we then climbed the very steep trail alongside the falls that eventually reaches Upper Catawba Falls. Personally, I think this is the more beautiful of the two, though both are quite impressive.       ... twas a great success.

      The riders then had to ascend up 64 W and then the dreaded Slick Rock Rd. (Elevation gain chart included in pics.) Last year's group had an equal elevation to climb but their destination was Asheville, not Hendersonville. A cat 2 climb 2nd week into the trip - bonafide heroes were made on this day.
