Historical Traveler Reviews of Huntingtower Lodge Fort William

Outstanding B&B Fortwilliam

from Sadsack
The Hunting Tower bed and breakfast is like home from home. The owners have done a brilliant job in making this bed and breakfast as modern, comfortable and as homely as possible.

We were made very welcome and very much enjoyed our stay there.

The views from the B&B are spectacular, looking over the Loch where porpoise, seals and otters can be spotted.

We would strongly recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone who wishes to spend a few relaxing days in Fort William.

MGB's and Scottish 'A' roads

from A TripAdvisor Member
Arrived by motorcycle after four hours in the saddle, two of which were in rain and high winds across Rannish moor and through Glencoe. Tired and wet we were warmly greeted by Aitken and shown the guest lounge and our room. The room was stunning to say the least, TV, broadband access and sky tv and a comfortable bed what more could you want. The view of the loch and surrounding mountains was superb. With the prospect of three days of continuous rain neither Carol or myself were looking forward to riding the bike, in fact we seriously considered staying the night and returning home. At breakfast next morning Aitken suggested trying the MGB. I had one of these many years ago and had some great memories Carol had never been in one. That settled it. Hire the MG for two days. We went to Mallaig on the first day and came back grinning like two Cheshire cats. Brilliant fun even in the pouring rain. MGB's and Scottish 'A' roads were made for each other. The next day we went to Oban and in the afternoon it dried out so the MG really came into its own. Driving the MG and seeing some beautiful scenery made the week for both of us, that and the hospitality shown to both of us made us feel really at home. When we return to Fort William we will certainly book Huntingtower Lodge again and who knows perhaps another go in the MGB.

Best Breakfast in Scotland

Our short stay in May with Aitken and Alison really set the tone for our honeymoon trip. In fact, it spoiled us! Nowhere else we stayed afterward (including some quite expensive 4 and 5 star venues) exhibited such friendliness and attention to detail. The breakfasts were spectacular and were by far the best of anywhere we stayed. But most of all, it was clear that Aitken and Alison have an authentic sense of hospitality, which showed through in their interest in each guest and their ability to make us feel truly welcome (very important in such close quarters as a B&B). Thanks again!

Great base for seeing the Highlands

from PeteandJane
My wife and I stayed here for 6 nights in May. Aitken and Alison are very welcoming hosts and Aitken's knowledge of Scotland's sights and walks combined with the sizeable library of resources and free broadband internet were very useful in planning our days out by using Fort William as a base.

Our room (Lochview) was on the ground floor and was clean and bright with a reasonable view of Loch Linnie (note there is a road between the B&B and the Loch - quiet at night though).

We climbed Ben Nevis and are the first entrants into Aitkens Ben Nevis visitors book - only do it if you are suitably attired, have a stash of chocolate and willing to make a sensible decision to turn back if you can't see the footprints in the 6 foot of snow at the top!

Think the idea of the Green Tourism scheme (Huntingtower has a gold rating) is great and it's good to see that there are still the mod-cons and standards you would expect from a 4 star B&B whilst reducing the impact on the environment at the same time.

Enjoy!

Felt completely at home

We might just have to go back very soon, Mum was difficult to remove!

Aitkin and Alice could'nt have made us more welcome. The rooms were lovely and spaciouse with Views over the Loch. Breakfast was a treat , never had such wonderfll porridge. They also provide you with a huge lounge at your disposal and lap tops in each room. The garden is a must for any gardener or conservationist. Perfect base for touring around Glen Nevis.

Superb!

Quite simply THE best accommodation you will find in the Highlands. Rooms are superb, with thought and consideration gone into every conceivable need. Breakfast is also outstanding.

The warm, friendly welcome from Aitken and Alison makes the Huntingtower Lodge a real home-from-home. Worth every penny. Unreservedly recommended!

Outstanding

from A TripAdvisor Member
At the time of writing this review (Jan 2006) there are just three reviews of the Huntingtower Lodge at Fort William on Trip Advisor. However, don't let a small number of published reviews influence your decision. If the three existing, highly positive reviews don't sway you on their own then take it from me, having visted there myself and having signed the visitors book I can confirm that it is literally jam-packed full of nothing but the highest possible praise from approx 100+ UK and international guests over the passed 4 years for accommodation which defines a whole new category of hospitality, inovation, quality and service. I can't imagine there is anywhere else quite like it.

Aitken and Alison are so friendly and accommodating it's more like visiting relatives who are glad to see you and put you up. They know the area well and made excellent suggestions for places to see and things to eat (Cafe Rhu on the Mallaig road do indeed do an excellent steak sandwich!)

Their house is immaculate, welcoming and in a prime location (a couple of miles outside the town) and next to the loch. They offer lifts into town and have a classic car-hire facility too (2 MG roadsters and a MX5). Three rooms at the moment but they are expanding. We used two of them and quality is consitent. Attention to detail is first rate and based on customer feedback.

Ok it may not be the cheapest but each room is immaculately finsihed but easy to relax completely in. They are each uniquely styled with en-suite and king-zize bed. To top it you have SKY TV, DVD, CD Video (incl cassette), laptop PC with free broadband internet.

Rates are room-only to allow guests greater flexibility with a varied breakfast menu to choose from. Food is excellent and gladly served at a time of guest's choosing! They have received awards from local press too which is richly deserved.

Would definitely return.

Thankyou both for a truly memorable stay.

The Fantastic Huntingtower Lodge

This is a fantastic place to stay with everything you could wish for in a high quality bed and breakfast. The decor is stunning and immaculate, the facilites are superb and the added extra's such as dvd, video,(with super video/dvd/cd library) sky and laptop with broadband access ensure whatever the weather you can entertain yourself. Aikten and Alison were wonderful, friendly and so helpful advising on the best places to eat, places to visit and even offering a lift into town in the evening if you fancy a drink. They made us feel so welcome we felt like guests in their own home. Their knowledge helped us to really get the most out of our time in Fort William. We would and will be recommeding the lodge to anybody looking for a truly special stay in Fort William

Perfect place to stay

My wife and I stayed at Huntingtower Lodge in mid- August. The rooms were outstanding. Ours was well furnished with lots of room. We loved the views and the friendly hosts that made the visit special. Aitken is very knowledgable about the the area. He spent a great deal of time explaining about the birds, flowers and local parks. His recomendations for diner were perfect. Had the weather been a little better, I would have loved to take one of his vintage cars for a spin. We will stay there again on our next visit.

Best Bed & Breakfast in the Highlands

I can highly recommend the excellent Huntingtower Lodge Bed & Breakfast in Fort William. My husband and I spent a couple of nights there at the end of our honeymoon and it was the perfect end to our trip.

The Lodge is situated just outside Fort William and has incredible uninterrupted views over the Loch. No matter the weather you can spend hours sitting in the comfortable guest lounge just watching the water. The guest lounge also has a large and varied collection of books, videos and games.

The rooms are bright, absolutely spotless, modern and very comfortable (no tartan in sight!). Each room has a king size bed (with lots of fluffy pillows), TV, video recorder. CD player and broadband internet access. The showers are amazing!

Aitken and Alison are consummate hosts. Nothing is too much trouble - they'll gladly pick you up from and take you to the railway or bus stations; make reservations for you at one of the local restaurants and drive you in; cater for any special diets; provide laundry facilities; will make up packed lunches, arrange onward accomodation/travel etc etc. They're knowledgeable about Scotland, it's history, local activities and the world in general. They're happy to chat away to guests but are the souls of discretion when you want to have time to yourselves.

Aitken also hires out gorgeous classic MG roadsters. He's an enthusiast and has refurbed them himself. We had a wonderful time driving in the red car (top down of course) along the windy road by the loch to see the sun set over the hills. An absolute must if the weather is half way decent!

I know this review sounds rather gushing but Huntingtower Lodge really is that good. I've never written a review before but felt that great Scottish hospitality like this should be recognised. It's far better than some of the 5 star hotels I've stayed in Scotland (and around the world) and it's what all Scottish holiday accommodation should aspire to.
