... s a little town about equidistance between Antwerp and Brussels called Mechelen, where a coworker of mine lives. He's always telling me that I need to drop by and see it, so I hopped off the train and walked into town. The streets were crowded because this Sunday and next are "Shopping Sundays" in preparation for Christmas, and I nearly got mowed down but a group of banjo playing Santas. spent a couple of days wandering the streets of central Brussels, riding the
buses and a day trip to Ghent & Bruges.
These two cities are a real step back in time. Both missed the worst of the bombing and
destruction of the wars, so the buildings go back over 1000 years to the
Crusades in ...
... met the boys and headed right out to my first Pub Crawl which we ended up leaving half way through.
We were told by some friends that if we wanted coffee to go to the Café, not the Coffee Shop. The coffee shops in Amsterdam are where marijuana is sold. You could smell it everywhere you walked which was not so much fun, but not much we could do about it. We just decided to stay away from those in general.
... showered in our luxurious private shower, ate an awesome free breakfast, and now here we are! After this blog, we have a full day planned hitting all the important Brussels sites (especially a certain famous peeing boy...and his sister...) and then we say goodbye to this awesome city and head to Bruges. Hopefully at that point we will be full of frites, waffles, and peeing boy memorabilia.
