A travel blog entry by johandahlberg on Jan 13, 2014

Yesterday I began the Chinese visa application for real. I started gathering the necessary documents and reading up on what I need to do. On Sunday, I'm flying to Sweden for a week of holiday with the main purpose to apply for the visa.

The reality suddenly dawned on me. This is really happening. I'm going to China. I have also started to plan the visit, brainstorming the sights I want to see in Beijing. Most exciting, however, is the one week ...

Apparently it starts cooling down halfway through November. Come April I plan to be visiting the highlands of Chiapas, and the more energetic of the Mayan pyramids ...

So exciting times today because it felt like the beginning of our vacation! After a beautiful breakfast of fruits (melons, and watermelon), tacos, more fried beans, scrambled egg, Danish and coffee and a bit of digestion time it was into the pool for a quick dip. I thought I'd get a shot of Pete and test out the cameras shock-proof claim by dropping it in the marble tiles. Well, the claim is false, so it was off to the plaza for some unexpected camera shopping, either that or face ...

... off to look for ‘The Yak’ hostel. A new, but continually ‘featured’ hostel with evidently a great ‘vibe’, and things like movie nights and live music. When we got there we found it completely staffed by young Israelis with the exception of the service staff. I don’t want to bang on about it so much but the place was pretty underwhelming. I mean the ‘vibe’ they were right about, we had one night packed in around a solo ...
